This UK forum is a nice change...(or not)

I can mostly speak my mind here. There are a few US computer forums I used to visit where all the evangelicals would try to hunt me down and burn me at the stake (in addition to banning me) for saying things like; "masturbate more", "smoke pot", "just eat less", "I'm skeptical of patriotisim", or (worst of all) "morals are relative".

Try the control-alt-delete forums- flame city, it's worse than Bliz.net ever was.

There's a section of it wherin anyone with a postcount below about 2000 gets insulted and put down just for posting -_-

Needless to say i'm more of a lurker in places like that..

Yep, we're a nice bunch but don't let that fool you into thinking we're soft either.

Oralpain, to be honest, the comment in the other thread about pot and self-abuse is just about as far as you can push it here... and definitely no further.

We are, and always shall be, a family rated forum.

Enjoy your stay and remember, you already hit the edge of the envelope, you can go no further!

    Cheers,

    Nick

    100% the truth!

Unless you are a bit clever and a bit more subtle.

Self abuse? Wow, it's been a while since I've heard it called something that archaic.

If you are going to demand that people refrain from speaking their minds, you should point this out in the forum guidelines. I'm not a mind reader.

"Family rated" is highly ambiguous. As far as I was aware of I had not posted anything at all harmful.

BTW, In that other post is was being 100% serious and attempting to be helpful.

So I can't just come out and say stuff? I have to dance around the issue and fill it with fluff? Or pretend that I'm joking? For what, the sake of political correctness or something?

I just don't understand why speaking plainly and literally would be a problem.

Generally it's not, we like a laugh as much as the next bunch of 'tards. Let common sense prevail & if you trip up, as i do from time to time, expect the odd ticking off. No drama, no flaming, banning's a very much a last resort.

And youir comment did make me laugh

    Well... there is this..

    http://forums.hexus.net/announcement...nouncementid=1

The forum guidelines, but you now know where the line is, as I've told you that you'd reached it... so you don't have to worry, do you!

It all boils down to common sense... we're a family forum, anyone of any age should be able to read this forum and NOT see swearing or vulgarity.

Opinions are a different matter, as these are your thoughts and we're all quite capable of expressing our thoughts without resorting to swearing or vulgarity... so we're not trying to stifle anyone's opinions but we do want them expressed in a sociably acceptable manner, that's all.

Look, this isn't going to turn into a 'freedom of speech' debate, as it's not about that... Family rated means just that... people of all ages from ten year olds to eighty year olds... there shouldn't be anything on here that raises an eyebrow other than peoples' opinions and thoughts, NOT how they express those thoughts. Simple really.

Because mate, its a family forum. So, for instance, a lot of people on this forum might think Tony Blair is a word that starts with C and has four letters. Now, they wouldn't say this of course, they would say he was a below par leader, a naughty man, or a baboon.

And in doing so, the meaning of the word is kept 100%, but no-one gets offended!

The magic of the English language!
