These boys are probably rated for unlimited aerobatics, and they won't do anything stupid, plus the airframes they are flying are designed to be good gliders, so engine failure isn't a problem.

Now THATS mad...but I'd LOVE to watch![]()

They told me I was gullible ... and I believed them.
The spitfire did not evolve from a racing plane, but it has been around for a while. Seen them doing it in Australia years ago.
yes, i know of the schneider trophy. mental but again: cool!
my uncle designed a plane that was used in the race to australia; the DH 88 Comet, it became the forerunner to the Mosquito. one of the fastest planes of WW2.
If I were given the chance I would learn to fly tomorrow if only that I could fly the mosquito...saddly - to my knowledge - it's been a while since a fully operational one has been in service....de Havilland, on the other hand, went on to use many of the lessons learned in the Comet in the development of the Mosquito, which was the fastest plane in widespread service from September 1941 until early 1944. Mosquitos were virtually uncatchable (combat losses were to a mere 1%) and could haul a 4000 pound bomb load all the way to Berlin; not much less than four engined heavies of the time

The RAAF are restoring a PR Mk.XVI to flying condition at the RAAF Museum in Point Cook ...you could ask, I suppose...

Have a gander HERE for the De Havilland Museum's restorations - they're even restoring one that was in "633 Squadron"! - now tell me you wouldn't sell close family members into slavery to have a go on that.
oh my god! I'm emmirating!

In actual fact, the Spitfire was an evolution of the aircraft thatwon the Schneider trophy for Great Britain, the Supermarine S.5/S.6. It was so damn fast that it's 3 succesive wins meant that GB got to keep the trophy. It's speed was what attracted it to the defence ministry. It may look pretty disimillar, but many chracteristics are the same.Originally Posted by dangerous_dom

To err is human. To really foul things up ... you need a computer.
I saw the rennovated DH.88 Comet fly in 1988, at the base it took off from when it originally won the MacRobertson air race![]()

Air racing has been around in an organized fashion since 1909 and was pritty big in the 20s and 30s.
That race is not directly over the city. Even in the event of a severe accident it would be unlikely for wreckage to hit anyone on the ground.
