    Gaming ettiquette...

    Thats right!!

    I believe there should be some form of gaming ettiquette...

    For example, if you are playing CS: Source or HL2, you should have played Wolfenstein 3d / Doom / Duke Nukem 3D at least once, its just good manners...as these games are the cornerstones of modern gaming, ths also applies to RTSs and other genres...

    What do you lot think??

    I think if you play UT2004 onslaught, you should learn to play as a team.

    For example:

    - You can carry people on a Manta, so don't just run for it to beat the next guy... take him with you!
    - Learn that the link gun can do just that... link. Link up with others and you're a force to be reckoned with.

    PHP Code:
    $s = new signature();
    $s->sarcasm()->intellect()->font('Courier New')->display();

    In the BattleField series, pick the most needed class and people will love you. (eg If there's 10 snipers on El Alamein then choose engineer)

    It's apparantly ok to be semi-pro, yet spend your gaming time hunting n00bs *cough*C&C Generals*cough*

    In an RTS or FPS, if someone's attacking something and you help them they'll be grateful and probably return the favour if they see you in trouble again. Do it in a MMORPG and they'll usually flame you for stealing kills.

    In team games, it helps if you wait around a bit after spawning alone, so that when you attack you actually have the man power to produce a result.

    That's all I got.

    unfortunately I don't think everyone really gets this...especially about the link gun. I try to follow a guy who has one and try to help out but i really think people could be a little wiser to this.
    as far as a team game I suspect not everyone really plays it as a team...shame really, cause thats where they get pounded. there should be a brief moment when you can select your team a bit like that X-wing Alliance game where you could chat briefly before getting on with blasting each other to bits...UT2004 servers just show up on the server screen and you literally jump straight into the mayhey. tehre's no time for a quick 'Right lads, here's what we'll do...' chat cause invariably the otehr team is breathing down your neck before you know it!

    A big thing that bothers me (other than cheats and bug exploits) are clans/squads/whatever organizing against random people on public servers.

    I thnk it depends alot on the server -
    i play cs:s on uni of teeside's servers, combatstrike, and simiancage - they seem to be the most fun where you can have decent (if not random) conversations and seems to match my skill level.
    I've never found a decent game of ut2004 online, and basically gave up.
    I've played heaps of genres and styles of games - still finishing GTA:Vice City which is fun before I start S.A - but god only knows what I'll do when BF2 comes out!

    Rules of gaming that have appeared ;

    In Quake 3, UT 2003/2004 etc, over 4 kills in a row is god-like, yet in CS it usually resolves to " OMFG haxz0r n00b!!!oneoneeleventy one!!!one" and sometimes even "kicked by admin".

    When playing WoW, and more that 3 are running from A to B, you all have to do "/train" at least once when passing another person

    Indeed sometimes it is necessary for those who often travel in a group - to have /train macrod to a button for ease of use

    In CS don't flash your own team members just as they run around a corner, nothing I hate more than that.

    In ANY online game AT ALL...

    Help the n00bie out by answering their questions calmly and patiently... you were a n00b once and EVERYONE asks a dumb question every now and then... Don't alienate new players just cos they're new.

    one thing that is annoyoing me. in bf2 the -8 points if you are punished for a teamkill, if you run infront on my jet on a runway when i am taking off what do you expect? how is that my fault and why do these muppets jump so quickly for the 'do not forgive' button when they are at fault?

    i think its a good idea in principle but i wish people would think twice before punishing people for teamkills or not, it may have been an accident remember.

    Let's all remember folks that the majority of the tools that have the poor ettiquette are sad little teenage boys without any form of social capability who feel a sense of power by "pwning" some "n00bs" that they will never meet.

    Because let's face it, if they ever did meet them they'd probably struggle to make eye contact.

    The ones that deride newbies really get on my wick - just because your just slightly above average at a game doesn't give you the right to rain abuse down on someone who has just started and is showing an interest in your hobby. Get a life...
