Get Photoshop and look on the net for guides or buy a book, to get to that kind of standard takes ages.

    Fractal generating software

There are a number of programs available for free on the web. I had a play with a few about 18 months back. Unfortunately I cleared out all my creations aand the software a while back. Some are easy to use and most have tutorials to start you off. Some can be quiet complex using layers (ala photoshop) and differing parameters.

Fractal Forge and Chaos Pro I remember using.

A quick googling revealed http://home.att.net/~Paul.N.Lee/Fractal_Software.html - looks comprehensive

i have always make my own wallpapers in photoshop using layers, masks and all that jazz, none of them are as good as the DB wallpapers but they genrally come out nice and i like them best thing to do is do what iranu said and follow some tutorials and then muck around in photoshop for a while and "pic" it up (excuse the punn)
