    Sending a text to portugal.

Maybe this should go in the mobile forum, but tbh I think it'd do better here.
Ok, I'm on Orange pay as you go, with Orange Out Here package.
    How much, if anything, would it cost me (or has it cost me, lol) to;
    A) Recieve a text message from Portugal
    B) Send one back.
The other phone is not on Orange (but can't remember what it is on).
    Thanks!

it *shouldnt* cost you anything above your normal text rate(assuming that they're on a uk mobile network), It'll cost them to send to you tho. This is the case for O2 anyway, but check on orange's website for full tariff details

It says 15p. I wonder how this fits in with my free texts?

Every contracts different. Phone Orange for the right answer.

It *should* be free to receive them though.

If you get to send free txts, the texts you send to portugal will be free since you are sending to another UK mobile.

If the person your texting is on a UK provider then the text will be free. If its on a foreign network then Orange will charge you 15p per text. It won't cost you anything to recieve a message.

i sent about 20 texts from portugal last week, and AFAIK they didnt cost the recipients anything.
cost me 49p each text tho, and it cost me £1p.m to receive a phonecall.

They shouldn't cost anything more to send to be honest. Why's that, well its an english mobile number then how is it possible for you to know that the person is actually abroad?.

Its not, that means that you would not know the charges up front and could be charged more and then you could speak to OFCOM and get the network operator in trouble.

But if its a Portugese mobile number yeah, then they are going to charge you more...

No, tis an English mobile number on a British network.
Well I risked it (I have next to no credit, just free texts) and I seem to be ok. Thanks!

if its an english number then you will be charged your normal rate. Also chances are the person roaming can recieve for free...but dont expect a reply.
Roaming is rip off central. I believe recently the EU decided to put its foot down, so soon people should get more realisitically priced roaming which will be a nice change!
Operators are already bringing things in.
