that's basically what glasgow does too. The subjects dont relate to a specific degree course ie i am in a chemistry lab with people doing degrees in physical chemistry, medicinal chemistry, zoology, psychology etc etc. Your first 2 years are very general, each term is dedicated to either physical, organic or inorganic chemistry. Then in your last 2 years you specialise in your chosen degree.

This sort of layout is great, cos you can chop and change what you want to finally do your degree course in until the end of 2nd year.

    Or there is me.

I did Chemistry, Biology, History and Politics A levels 10 years ago. I did what I wanted to do; History and Politics at Essex. I loved every minute of it, and now have ended up in Computers.

The arts or at least elements of them in a degree tend to make for a much more rounded person. Jobs are by no means just about qualifications. I employ people who could tell you the square root of their shoelaces but cannot do them up! Do a lower stress degree and have some fun. You won't be sorry either an uni or in your dealing with others in your job afterwards.

That's like me also... I got A levels in chemistry, mathematics, physics and art back in 1988, picked up my BSc in 1992, worked for a couple of years in a job not related to chemistry... Then spent two years doing an MBA in International Finance, graduated in 1995 and been working in investment banking since...

At the end of the day, what you do in university will not dictate your career for the rest of your life (unless you want to a doctor, a dentist, an engineer of some sort, a lawyer or one of a number of professions...)

Whoa! You have only been there a week. Give it more time before you make a decision like that. I know the first weeks can be a bit of an arse but hang in there for a bit longer at least! You may be pleasently suprised.

after having a maths lesson today and getting totally lost i realised im not upto degree maths

same goes for computing, i can program, but not all that well, i did quite a bit today but it still seems a bit on the basic side

so chemistry (maybe) is what im going to do, either that or something totally new and unrelated i wont need a levels for, such as forensics, or pshycology 9maybe )

i do bio / electronics / computing, and i decided looong ago that computer sci wasn't for me, all the courses look abit dull. E-commerce and e-buisness at nottingham is about the only course i've found that sounds interesting..

few lectures and not much time in the lab sounds appealing to me

why don't you get a load of prospectuses and go to some of the open days? that'll give you a better impression rather than deciding the next 3/4 years of your life on what someone said on a message board.

all the degree programmes in the science faculty can be found here:
    http://www.gla.ac.uk:443/studying/ug....cfm?faculty=7

    chemistry specifically is here: http://www.gla.ac.uk:443/studying/ug...fm?program=114

I really do like the way glasgow runs its science courses with the flexability and how you dont need to decide for definite what u're final degree is going to be until 3rd year. It solves the type of problem bertie is having. In first year he would have taken maths, economics and computing, then he would get the best of both worlds and wouldnt have had to decide till the end of second year after he's had a taster of both subjects.

anyways, good luck making your choices!
