In my 20 years of living in the UK, I've noticed that the English actually like the smaller British nations to do well (probably not as well as the English teams - they don't want to lose their bragging rights...) But for the rest of the home nations, they'd give their right arms to see the English teams getting a kicking...

I've got no work on Friday, I've got a dozen bevvies cooling in the fridge ready for sat... and have got everything mapped out for another excellent weekend of couch based rugger!
England has got a great chance of winning it - but they've never really had a shot before - remember that it's only been going since 87 - so this is the fourth world cup! We can't have Australia win it again, SA just aren't strong enough - it comes down to NZ, France or England.
The French have always been more flambouyant and passionate about the game, but fluctuate.
In recent years, NZ have choked badly at critical junctures - and it's something I'm sure you'll all agree that England is also prone to!
What do you mean? I mean England losing the Grand Slam as favourites more than once was of course done on purpose

Have you been reading all the stories around aimed at England? Personally that says to me who everyone is scared of, as remember what happened in '99 with NZ?
Oh well we'll see, so many teams who could win. But only one team can win, I would love to see England win. But I would also like to see France win, keep it in the Northern Hemisphere for once
With the scots on this one, dont care who it is as long as it is not England, although a bonus is always England being beaten in the final.

Maybe but if they (England) win we'd all have to listen to endless 1966 footy style repeats for years to come.
The whole thing will be unbearable if they win - we'll get endless newspapers and media telling us all that England are the greatest team of all time and all the winning team will be named in the world team of the century. Moaning Woodward will be knighted and Jonny and Johnson will get an OBE.
And then every game they lose in the next twenty years will be blamed on an act/hand of God because, as everyone in the world knows, England is God's chosen race and the greatest Rugby nation on the planet earth.

I really want to see the Irish do well, I think they've got a huge amount of potential - I think you're right tho - an English win would turn all future matches into something of a joke!
Watching it now - NZ are playing v.v. badly, and the Canadians are playing very well! Just hope NZ picks up the pace and really starts running in the tries - too many handling errors from the Kiwis, but at least it's Rugby!
