Appendix A...

I'm off work today because I'm going for a checkup on my appendix, I'm nineteen and I'm wondering why I haven't had mine removed yet when the majority of my friends have had theirs removed already...

For about four years, I've been getting this feeling where my appendix is, like as if someone is poking me with their little finger from the inside out so I know the days are numbered before it must come out, but theres no pain because the friends of mine who have had theres removed have spoken of a lot of throbbing pain in that area.

So how does one know when its time for the ol' appendix to be removed??

erm, i'm 21 and i've still got my appendix, and so have nearly all of my friends.... I dont think it's a necessity, you just have them taken out if you get appendicitis as fas as i'm aware.

I had mine out about 2 years ago. Got hit really hard in the side playing rugby on saturday, felt a bit ill and stayed in bed on monday. Didn't move for 3 days and didn't bother telling anyone until wednesday when I hadn't eaten since monday. Went to see the doctor on thursday morning and was rushed to hospital and had it out thursday night. Didn't really feel more than a general numb pain in the area unless the doctor poked it in which case it really really hurt.

Turns out my appendix was perforated slighlty and had been leaking infection all over my abdomen for about 4 days and most of my insides were a bit infected, hence the general illness. Doctors said if I had left it one more day I would have been dead...

My brothers was a different story, we were sailing in spain and he felt ill randomly one morning and had massive shooting cramps/pain from the appendix area. He just lay in bed moaning like a car alarm for a day before the spanish doctors rushed him into hospital and chopped it out.

You only get your appendix removed if it causes problems. My mum still has her appendix and she's almost 48.

I thought your appendix was a useless organ, that didnt serve any purpose maybe not,

still got mine though at the ripe old age of 18

I started balding at 21 Theo, still got a bit left at 26 although it's now pretty thin.

BEANFro, Appendixes don't grumble for two years AFAIK, they suddenly get bad and need to be removed urgently. My grandad recently had his out and he's in hie eighties, I think they just randomly go- although it's not common. Unless you're properly ill or in serious agony I very much doubt it's your appendix.

Me too, but remember bald is sexeh! No shame in being a slaphead, takes a bit of getting used to.

I used to have long hair & the odd mohecan as a teen. Happy days Payback for all the hours & mountains of hair prodicts I used on it.

I have too much hair tbh, get it from my mother. Apparently I'm also fairly unlikely to grey until my really old days
