    Anyone been to rome?

Going for a weekend break in a couple of weeks time, yet still to book the hotel, from what i've read the centre of rome is pretty small and suggestion is to get a hotel pretty much in the centre, close to the termini station. Anyone been got any good suggestions on what to go see/do etc.

    Cheers

if your looking for somewhere pretty central and cheap, try to rent an apartment; failing that the albergo del senato hotel is great. If you can try to stay around the piazza navona (sp) or pantheon area as you're close to everywhere and there are plenty of good close restaurants.

This place gets the thumbs up http://www.raphaelhotel.com/ if you can't quite squeeze the purse strings to it, then do eat there, have lunch on the terrace, it is very reasonably priced for food.

    Have a good time.

Loads to do in Rome, went last year for one week, and just about crammed everything in in that time, bring your walking boots. I stayed in a hotel outside central Rome, amongst the 'suburbs' which gave me an insight into more everyday Italian lifestyle.

Grab an English speaking tour of the Vatican City (this'll take up most of a day so start early around 9am) and St Peters Basilica.

The Colosseum, Roman Forum and Palatine Hill should be done together as they're right next to one another (probably a whole afternoon).

For lunch, pop over to Piazza Navonna, with the Pantheon only around the corner, then cross the main street an have a gander at the Trevi Fountain.

Get the hotel to arrange an evening coach tour of the city, you'll get to see most sights of the city, have some stunning night views, and some tours have stops, so you can just get off near the end of the tour at a Piazza you fancy and have dinner there.

TBH, a weekend for Rome is not really enough.....

normal action, I think it does.

    ---------------------------

I'm a considering getting a sleasyjet v.early morning trip to Rome then flying back late for the following:

    a) Have a quick look at some of the main sites
    b) Take some pics!
    c) Have a true Italian espresso (or two, or three, or four, or five, or six)
    d) Have pizza.... heck it's italy, what else (don't mention pasta - although pasta = very good stuff, particularly if real)

Was thinking about going to Naples for the coffee side of things, however I'd like to see a bit of Rome

What I'd like to know is, which of the sites are free
