fastest way to send back an hitachi 7k250

    Yhello,

Brought a 7k250 200gig version, but its decided to start dieing on me.

Anyway, they say '2 week turn around' which is quite long considering Maxtor would dispatch one next day on basis of a credit card or something.

What are my choices - its still under its 12month supplier + 3yrs from manufacturer. Can I take it back to where I got it from and have it swapped that day?

    edit: 250gb's another disk

If your retailer will do it for you then yes you can get a straight swap out but some don't after 30 days or so, check with your retailer and see if they will help you out.
Please do not message me about Scan Free shipping, I no longer work for HEXUS.net

Seriously, the easiest way is to see what your retailer can do about it.

If it's under a year old the retailer HAS to replace it for new, on the spot as faulty goods. Sale of Goods Act !
You do not have to give them a chance to repair it if it's not white goods.
    (IANAL)

IIRC Hitachi used to offer ARRMA's.
Fill out the online RMA and ask for an advanced replacement and give a card number. I got mine in about 3 days.

Better get looking for the receipt! Think I have it somewhere. Hitachi stopped offering advance replacements.

If they say no, ask for a full refund as it's 'not fit for use' (Hay it broke down within 12 months!).

Well, threatened them with Trading standards officier - shop owners say 'wait wait what do you want?' , i tell them I just would prefer a hot exchange.

They offer to do so, so long as I pay for the drive, and they'll refund the amount back for the 200GB Maxtor I got today.

    Result.

Moral of story - call their bluff.

On a side note, the Hitachi's standard RMA is pretty efficient in my experience. No you won't get something early replacement (it is standard RMA), but I got I recall getting it in ~5 days. I can't say the same for WD which I had to send to Germany just when they were changing office.
