Sod the pilot who landed it. Give the engineer that designed and the mechanic that built the undercarriage a medal.
The stresses on that front strut must have been immense. Really shows how well these things are put together.

Has anyone noticed the sheer number of plane accidents recently?
EDIT - just watched the video - who ever was piloting that plane had nerves of steel..that plane hardly faultered on approach or touchdown! Good job.

Lots of accidents, lots more planes. As soon as you increase the fleet and number of planes making journeys accidents are bound to go up - especially since some are so badly maintained.
I was on cathay pacific flying to hong kong last year around this time. I can still remember this danish guy leaning over to me (we'd spoken earlier and he'd labelled me 'crazy') and him saying 'hey, crazy eeeenglish guy. Have you noticed the engine is on fire'
And you'll never guess what, it was... 20feet of fire stretching from the wing. My response was 'damn, better save the inflight movie tomorrow, this'll mean we'll be turning back'. 5 mins later the aircraft has done a 180, the pilot explained we'd had some mechanical trouble and were flying the 4hrs back to heathrow. What fun.
On landing the second engine on the boeing went, leaving us with just two engines to land on on one side. This isn't a problem.
Like my problems with hard disks, I have issues with aeroplanes to. It's the third such fire I've had on an aircraft, add that to my two near misses (they were good fun, nice big drop and the engines really roar), a lightning strike and a horrible incident with lemon scented napkins...
I recon I'm the safest guy to fly with (touch wood) as most people only ever experience one big ball of flame in their life. I get lots of small problems.
May you live in interesting times!

I notice the LA times now has a huge long article about how dangerous the Airbus is.... Seems a little politically motivated to me.
