I still think the most creative hardware i've seen was our 6th form's fileserver. More of an art peice than function. But apparently cost £16k!

I used to have a Voodoo 2 chip on a keyring (Got it free at ECTS a good few year ago), its really cool that people have put to use old PC parts !
IT's really old and really dead stuff i purchased off ebay and various people on here
I used old HDD platters to make mobiles when the girls were babies. Real blue peter stuff it was, wire coat hangers & fishing line etc. Worked wonders.
They make good wind chimes too.

I can imagine that they worked better than anything shop bought... babies love looking at shiny things, mirrors and anything that attracts light ( Mirrors and shiny objects are used to develop sensory perception in special needs children )
