Warning: Cheap ADSL filters could ruin your life

    WARNING

I have been reliably informed in the .connectivity forum that cheap ADSL Microfilters area bad idea.

In fact, lets face facts, it's not THAT suprising, BUT ITS A WARNING....

IF YOU ARE GETTING RANDOM DISCONNECTS with your router, maybe its a cheap filter.

And it COULD be a filter on a different phone in your house, not just the one the router is plugged into

Anybody wanna shed light of good and bad makes?

I've had good luck with filters from http://www.adslnation.com/. Got a modified NTE-2005 Master Face Plate that i need to fit to my phone line and run a couple of extentions. You can't get much better than that, it's what BT used to use for their engineer installs.

Never had any problems with the Ebuyer 99p jobbies I bought a couple of years back. Running 2Mbps.

Ditto the ebuyer jobbies - I've had ADSL for a couple of years now, and they've been no problem - so while some cheapies may be a no-no, it looks like ebuyer's one place for decent cheapy filters...

I've used ebuyer cheapies at home and when setting up ADSL for other people. Always worked fine, but yes - some can ruin everything

Yep - £3 filters drop me out. However, I'm about 3 miles off the exchange at 1Mb.

The same filters near the city centre where flawless.

However, i aint paying £20 for some posh one.... I'm just gonna make my own up.

I also recommend doing this, it's a nice neat solution, no need for filters for phone equipment.

Mine was installed for free when they did engineer installs a few years back.

hmmm this is interesting although it wont explain why my router keeps loosing link sing as a run it strait into the phone socket without a filter, but usb and pci modems continue to work
