HEXUS Forums - Version 3.5.0 Completed

    Ok,

It wasn't exactly smooth sailing, but I am getting there. There are still a couple of forums to move over to the latest specification and I am doing this just now, but its not crucial to you all being able to post on the forums so I thought I would open them up again.

And now on with the whats new.....that I have added in addition to the vB developers (there are lots of cool new toys!)

1 I have added a member search, available from hovering over the Search icon on the tool bar at the top.

2 This is my favorite one heh, under my name to the left you will see a 'my system' link. The intention of this is for you to list your system specification in a tidy manner away from the actual signature space. We will be putting more pressure on people who's signatures are outside the rules, purely as we are working hard to make this as slick and quick as possible, and big signatures get in the way

Right so how do you activate 'my system'?

Go into your User CP link at the top and then click on 'Edit Options'.

You will then see the 'System Specification' section in the Thread Display Options section. Just litterally change the dropdown from No to Yes and fill in the specifications box underneath. its as simple as that.

    --------------------------------------------------

I hope you like the changes that have taken place and if you are finding the forums a little slow this should improve when I have completed everything. You will find things like the instant edit and the quick loads after posting will make a big difference to the way you use HEXUS.community.

As I say I hope its all ok, any problems or questions or feedback feel free to post away in this thread.

    Thanks Matt.

But... where has the Hexus watermark in the reply box gone? (Not that I mind too much... just curious)

Ah, okay then - I quite like the ability to display your system, saves having to put it in your sig or posting it every time you ask for advice. I definately agree with you about the sigs - some people's are pretty big with just rows of text.

The new buttons are... interesting. (I mean the ones such as Submit Reply.) I'm not quite sure whether I prefer them over the old ones or not - however, I'm not sure that they quite fit in with the colour scheme... or is that something else you have to fix?

It may be a (relatively) small update, but I think it's a good one!

Congrats getting it working... I found it to be a bit more troublesome than I had planned as well, luckily my forum only has 4 styles to rebuild... My only remaining job is to get some kind of pet system but thats at the bottom of the todo now.

Isn't VB3.5 nice, the plugins system works really well and saves much template hacking.

I know you are on the case, but the quick reply should be a priority; it's no longer quick! in fact the whole reply/text entry seems broken at the moment.

Also, the subscribed thread page no longer displays how many replies each thread has.

Everything seems a bit spaced out to much and not making good use of the screen real estate, if you know what i mean.

Seems a bit faster on the whole to me though.

Keep up the good work tho chaps.

Its exactly the same, only somehow different.

    Nice work Mr Code Monkey

You've probably noticed but I'll mention it anyway - the favourite icon is no longer branded (favicon.ico maybe?), it looks like what I assume is the default vBulletin one.

Love the smaller font! Just wish vB allowed more than 40 posts/page.

Any chance we can have a section for anything else... I want to show off my cooler there as well

Have to agree, the system thing is cool, but the font is painful. No doubt my eyes will adjust!

In the My System bit, could you add Case, PSU, Optical drive(s) and input - when you get chance of course

Does this mean you are going to stop people pimping thier systems in thier sig?

Not totally pimping their sigs, but within reason, for example it should be alot less lines than you have, refer to the rules on that one.

I may increase the fields forthe system, but for the time being I am going to see how it goes as obviously its and extra query on the load time...
