There is lots of things which can be done

a widget would be great!
if it stored your user details for the forum and then when you visit a thread and post the widget adds that thread to a list and warns you when some one repplies.
not sure how easy it would be though
guess the backend would be just set up to querry the mysql (assuing your uber forum runs on that) server at your end every 30 seconds or so to see if the threads youve visited have changed in any way

would be a handy tool
