    What do you do with...

...someone who's not happy with something you've sold them over ebay?...since its the first thing I sold over ebay its not exactly the best thing to happen, still @ self! would have to happen to me eh?!
I suspect the guy had high expectations and is trying to get more than he deserves, or was stated in the bid. basically I sent the item to him, he got it today and he sends back a message saying its no way near what he was expecting, its been 'abused' (I dread to think, this is a family forum!), 'going to report it to ebay whats-it', 'yada yada yada...' and all the rest of it.
I check what else this guy has bought over the past few weeks and he's got exactly the same thing from another seller, and again a slightly different one from another. Its a camera part; he's got two for one type of camera, one for a totally different one so he could have 'bought the wrong one' and as such be a case of caveat emptor - and tell him to stuff it (send round Pyle etc.). though he was civil in the days prior to receiving it (money matters etc.) so, being the type I am, I feel I should treat him with the respect anyone would expect to receive if they were polite, but his sudden backlash has somewhat disturbed me.could he just be buying what he can then returning what he wants to get the best one? it may be him spouting poo for no good reason - a used item is a used item after all, you can't really sell something as 'new' unless you're a shop on ebay or something can you.
oh well, that was my event for the day. knowing my luck he's a hexus regular, that would make my day...

I was in a similar situation recently with a buyer. But after I quoted caveat emptor he sent me death threats really. Still he gave up in the end, there was after all nothing wrong with the item I sent him.

You always need to cover your back with ebay. Lucky I managed to sell one of my monitors for £300 and ship it without anything breaking

Well there's a lot of conmen on Ebay as well as a lot of really honest genuine people as long as you gave a honest &truthful description of what you were selling you are in the right. But it's unfortunate that this happened on your first auction but some people deliberately try it on with new sellers on Ebay as a more established seller would have feedback to support thier honesty. Like I said if you described the item truthfully don't worry about it.

thats what I'm inclined to think...
I'm not going to respond just yet...but I'm sorting out a reply in my head thats, I believe, honest and fair and to the point to make it final.

    LOL

I state in my auctions "No returns. Buyer is bidding for the item as pictured/described" etc. Then they can't really have the upper hand unless something dodgy's happened to it in the post, etc

Tell the person you'll go round to said persons house and sort the mess out.(ploy to get address) In the meantime go find a Huge, Rabid Doberman or maybe a Tiger?. When you get to the house in question press the doorbell

"Ding, Donggggg!"Out pops the Dog/Tiger/Kung-fu Rat and eats Face off Naughty Ebayer!

Make sure you leave him some bad feedback, such as.....

"The guy was so ugly he made my doberman ill"

At the end of the day it is, legally, buyer beware. If your description was factually correct, it was up to him to check the exact condition or any specific details that he was bothered about. He may well neg you, but if it's your first sale just set up another account and put it down to experience is my advice.

You could accept a return on the condition that he covers your postage and ebay fees so you're not out of pocket.

P.S. if he paid by Paypal though, withdraw the money NOW in case he starts a chargeback.

not too bothered about neg feedback tbh, i've bought so many other things no prob that one thing really doesn't worry me. as for paypal he tried paying by cc and for some reason it was rejecting it so thats his problem as far as I'm concerned...he payed by cheque in the end, just keeping fingers crossed he didn't cancel it or something anal like that.

Did he give you exact details as to what was up with it, or was he just very vague?
