    Nerves/Shyness

I know it sounds silly but is there anyway you could limit this? Anything you can do to try and control it ,Because lets just say i started a new job on monday had 2 hours training on the till i was so nervous it was killing me,I went to get change out the till for a custermour and dropped pennys on the floor my hands we're shacking somuch people could tell so that didn't help.I haven't heard back from my employers since surely i can't get sacked because i'm nervous?

I doubt you would get sacked for been nervous, but maybe if you kept been clumpsy all the time then possibly.. but it was a one off so I wouldn't worry.

It's a tough one with nerves and shyness, I have that problem too, just keep in mind that your good at what you do. Think to yourself, why are you nervous? Most of the time when I'm nervous, I usually say something along the lines of "I don't want to make a prat out of myself, or look stupid", but you'll find most of the time you'll be wrong and that little bit of confidence makes all the difference.

I know it's easier said than done, but just keep it in your head, that you are and will be confident.

I get that sometimes. Worst thing about irrational nerves is that realising you're shaking makes it worse :/

Best way to get rid of it is to just act confident. I know it's impossible to just 'stop' the nervousness by clicking your fingers, but if you act confident (e.g. eye contact, smile, be down to earth with them, slow confident movements etc) then your nerves will follow. Oh, and the best way to end nervousness permenantly is to go to parties, be friendly and generally meet new people by going out. Next time you're in town/the supermarket/the queue for the cash machine, try to start talking to someone. Generally people are keen to speak to you, keep that in mind.

At your job, just casually point out you're a little nervous to the customers and joke about it being your first day! Worked fine for me

Can't agree more, i have a problem with confidence except in my Job because i know i'm good at what i do, support of my colleagues have been excellent

Maybe if your worried then go along and see your Boss and explain yourself and maybe let him suggest ways you can help yourself, start small then build up to bigger things

I just had my annual appraisal and my only negatives were - Not voicing my opinions enough, and not being more authorative with staff a level below me, i was also told that iv'e got a 4% payrise from beginning of October Excellent stuff

You'll get there in the end, just remember it's not the mistakes you make it's what you do to rectify them that's important wish you the very best of luck

    Drink helps,

Strong whiskey Morning, Noon & Night. You might get sacked for drinking but who cares you'll be so drunk you won't even care!

On the other hand if you are nervous about something the best way to overcome it, is to do it even more! Familiarity soon takes care of whatever bothers you!

Ever thought of going into the gynecology, couple it with your extreme nervous shakes and you'll have the ladies coming back for more!

Dont worry about being nervous- happens to 99% of people. Take some deep breaths and remember the nervousness will fade in no time. A few short weeks and you wont believe that this ever concerned you

Try and be as friendly and chatty with customers and colleagues as you can as im sure you'l find that most people are only too happy to chat and WILL put you at ease. With starting the conversation, in most cases you need to do it- most people forget how bad a first day is and how nervous you will be.

I work at WH Smith and have done for over 3 years now. We have just had a new intake of school leaver aged people, 16+, and they are all really nice people and of course nervous... its only natural. Dont feel bad about it. Get over your nerves on the till by blaming the till explain that your new, most people are understanding and if they are not... well no one pays any intention to a wanchor with a personality problem anyway . Chat to the customer- say your a bit stuck to explain your slowness and most people will smile and tell you not to worry.

Get over nerves by making friends with the people at your work- you'l feel much less isolated. Now i know i have rambled a bit here but i hope its helpfull. Good luck

Im usually reading a veriety of magazine like custom pc while pretending to tidy/fill them

If you see me come and say hello, if i serve you then i can put my 12.5% staff discount through for you (the company gets tighter and tighter, it used to be 25%)
