    Broadband for a NTL Convert

    Hey Guys,
After much time, it seems my mum is finally going to ditch NTL, which means my house will be returning to a BT phoneline. Only thing is, this means my internet connection (300k uncapped for 17.99 a month) goes too.

So, I'm on the market for another ISP. I like the look of 'Freedom to Surf', but I'm not sure about the competition. I am looking for a package around the £15 mark which is uncapped. Obviously, the higher the speed, the better, but as long as its not lower than my existing 300k, I'm happy

    So, anyone got any recommendations?

    not entirely true.

You could get ADSL through NTL on a BT phone line if there is anything specific about the internet connection you want to kepp, just ask them.

Btw, if your mum is planning to leave based on price then call up NTL, I threatened to leave and they slashed the prices for me, I pay £22 a month for full family pack and Sky Sports full pack, bargainous

What are your usage patterns? How much (estimated) do you think you do in a month?

It should be possible to keep your NTL cable for internet only btw if you wanted to.

Plus.net, they are great, I changed from AOL to Plus.net a few months ago, no limits, and it's much cheaper, and no crap from AOL, and when 8mb is available on BT phone lines you will get it upgraded for free! (if your using 2mb that is).

    £21.99 for 2mb uncapped

You get a static IP and hostname.... the list goes on, just visit their site

PM me if you decide to get it, so I can send you a referal link

Might be a fairly odd request, but I kinda prefer dynamic IPs... Having a static one for 3 years, I have been banned from so many games servers by lame admins, just for winning/beating them. I like the idea of dynamic IPs

Also, in reply to the above question, I download a lot per day; between 1 and 2 gigabyte. I sometimes get up to 20gb a week though.

errr NTL do not offer a fixed IP straight out of the box, and you can release it whenever you like and obtain another....

I can't. I have had the same IP for 3 years. I have tried renewing and releasing the IP, reloading at the NTL set top box, and many other things. Proxy doesn't work for me either for some reason

Yep, for some reason I have a static one.

To be honest, i wouldnt go for uncapped packages. With a capped package you know what u have got, but with uncapped you don't know if the company will apply caps at a later date thus tieing your hands to a service which isnt what you want which could result in you wantingto change ISPs again. The pattern at the moment is that more and more ISPs are capping the bandwidth they provide u with.

I can give a vote of confidence for F2S here. Been with them for a few years now and last month moved onto their 8mb package which went flawlessly. £25 a month no caps. Unsure if they offer dynamic ip's though as mine is static

Oh it's optional, you can have a dynamic one as well if you ask for it, I'm sure you can..

I know that you HAVE to have a dynamic IP though if you choose one of the lower packs, or something like that anyway. They have tons of great options.

What stops companies changing the cap on their currently capped service? Theres not much difference between that and applying a cap on a currently uncapped service later is there?
