Made a drink, called him out the living room, turned the light off, closed the door, went to walk upstairs... crumpets had it away on their toes.

Felt a right nob. Would have stayed and had a good look but my feet were cold.
Ah, it all becomes clear! Have you looked on the plate? I bet thats where they are.

I checked the obvious places, like seeing if they had fell in the bin, etc. Its things like this that make you think you are going mad...

I do that with Cups of Tea all the time. Walking into the lounge with it in hand. The phone will ring. I stick the cup down and run to the phone holder (Cordless, 2 Handsets). It isn't there, I run to the table and find them both. Get to speak to gupta of Everest Windows. Fob him off them loose the smegging brew.

I wonder if this Gupta and the crumpets are in league with each other?

There's a kids TV series in this - Gupta and the Crumpets.

    I'll write it now...

I had burgers instead. I could hardly stand, let alone feel safe setting up the deep fat fryer... so just bunged a load of mince and herbs on the George Foreman.

    Battered King Prawns today though!

Maybe you ate them? I've done that before, made something eg a sandwich, eaten it without really concentrating and then wondered where it had gone

Starting to think I might have eaten them, because they are nowhere to be found.

Ah well, it will forever remain a mystery.

Happens all the time, like the other day, got up late for an appointment, was rushing to get ready, straight out the house, was doing 70 on the motorway when I suddenly realised I'd forgot my car.

    Typical.

I think this is a classic case that proves that either

    a) time travel is possible and someone from the future (possibly even you) had a desire for crumpet and didn't have a supermarket nearby, nipped back in time and half inched 'em.

    b) parallel universes exist and your crumpets dissapeared through a wormhole in your kitchen to another dimension where crumpets toast, butter and eat small human beings.

    c) you scoffed 'em without noticing.
