Which razor for a wet shave?

I've been using Wilkinson Sword Protector 3D Diamond razors for a few years now. Lately, i've noticed that the blades become blunt after just one shave! That's either due to my stubble being more firm or the quality of the blades is not what it used to be.

At nearly £7 for 8 blades that's a high cost per shave.

So, what razors do you guys (and girs!) recommend for a wet shave?

I've shortlisted the following three for now:

    - Gillette Mach 3 Turbo (not the battery-powered one)

    - Wilkinson Sword Quattro

    - Wilkinson Sword Xtreme 3

I'm looking for the closest shave possible at a reasonable cost per shave.

    Tesco 3-blade razors (Mach 3-alike).

They're about half the price of Gillette, last longer and IMO give a BETTER shave! I get 4-5 good shaves per blade, and I have thick stubble.

A razor and four blades is £2.28 and a pack of 8 blades is £4.24 (I've checked at Tesco.com..).

Give 'em a try - what have you got to lose?*

*£2.28 and half your face... (no, seriously, they're really good).

Cut Throat razor, best shave you will ever get Other than that I was given a Mach 3 Turbo battery thing, its gets a close shave but not like that of a cut throat razor.

A cut-throat really isn't practical. I travel a lot and having a cut-throat razor in your possession isn't going to go down too well! The Mach 3 Turbo M-Power seems to a bit over-rated as the battery power makes it pulse and can cause a few nicks.

I got given a Mach 3 nitro-kit and this gives a damn good shave.

It's just a shame it gets blunt very quick indeed and eats the blades like theres no tomorrow.

I did try the adsa 3 blade clone - these are OKAY for 1 shave, after that prepare to have your face cut to ribbons.

Im a big fan of the quattro, although it is very sensitive to the shaving foam/gel you use, i find the king of shaves MME or ALS ones are the best (black or bright orange), i usually go through a blade a week, and i have exceptionally thick stubble (as in i have to do of a night if i dont want to look like a hobo when going out somewhere)

Some cheapo ASDA ones, have to shave every day so I dont have the dosh to splash out on mach 3 and spend a couple of quid for a shave, they only work once, but at whatever they work out to be, about 4p a go knowing ASDA its worth it

I used to use the economy ones many years ago but found that they weren't actually strong enough for my stubble! I actually snapped one in half whilst shaving and it left me with a nasty cut on my chin.

I also need to consider the availability of razors around the world and Gillette and Wilkinson Sword cartridges are available in most countries.

I popped down to my local Boots after lunch today and bought Gillette Mach 3 Turbo. It comes with 2 blades but I didn't buy any more. If it doesn't work out i'll try another one from the suggestions.

Im on a regular mach 3. Its ok, the angling of it makes it fairly hard to shave just under my jaw near my ears, but other then that, its a good shave. Not exactly cheap on the blades though

Blades are very expensive. But if I can get 2-3 shaves per blade then it works out a little cheaper than what i'm using now.

As for the angling, the Mach 3 Turbo is essentially the same as the Mach 3 with one important difference for me: you can shave 'against the grain'. I know you're not supposed to do this but I have to if I don't want a permanent 5 O'Clock shadow!

Sure, it's going to mean around £20 down the drain but I tend to stick with one razor for several years.

The small print: schmunk takes no responsibility for any loss, financial or otherwise, caused by use of Tesco shaving products. schmunk's posts do not represent a recommendation of such products, actual or implied, however schmunk hopes Taz finds these products to his (her - well it could be...) liking. The value of investments and any income from them may go down as well as up.

I use a Wilkinson Sword Xtreme 3 with Nivea sensitive gel on my head and cheeks. Chuck a bit of Neutrogena dry skin moisturiser on, throw in a daily exfoliation and you're sorted. :>
