Bah, just as I use Sygate full time this happens. Will there be any detriment to using the current version for the next year or so? Will it result in an unsecure system? I don't see how?

o ffs not another one, first they kill off partion magic and now they taken the axe to sygate....
o well i'll keep using sygate pro till a vun is found out and the product is rooted to hell...then i'll prolly move over to outpost or just be happy with the xp fw and the routers fw.....
Sad day indeed.
What are the legalities of placing free software on a server like this. I've got a dl from a week or two ago... I presume it's not legal to claim I'm a mirror!
So what are the alternatives or just keep using Sygate? (I will not use Zone Alarm)

Its a really good piece of software, I've put soo amny SMEs on it, one I really hope donated 1k to the project (they damn well should, but probably didn't, seeing it as a free lunch instead). An entire small office (home office really) used it to do some very good QoS as well as security.Originally Posted by Moby-Dick
I really like how its designed to run of a small flash drive, so much more reliable than HDD. Most other parts in old computers never die (except PSUs).
I was speaking to the UK manager of Sophos labs, he was saying how they just can't be bothered with the hassel of home users. They don't want people to think of their name as anything less than perfect service but if they give home users the product without proper support (always the expensive part) they think it would hurt sales, rather than improve em. I kinda get his point and belive him (as it was more one of those anoying know it all types at the BCS meeting who finished his awnser for him, didn't he know i had question to bug him with!).Originally Posted by Moby-Dick

There is no such thing as a hardware firewall on a router, its just software running on the router OS (IOS, Linux, whatever).
Still, its all I use as well.

The Cisco PIX series use x86 hardware, with Cisco IOS.Originally Posted by G4Z
As for software firewalls, its really dependant on the other services running on the system too. For example, I believe ClarkConnect tries to be too much, leaving the firewall open to attack by other means.
I would like a fast wireless broadband router with gigabit lan if there is such a thing?
netgear is quite good...do not buy dlink routers, you just get yourself a lot of troubles. (at least from my exp)
