    I'm giving up smoking today

Went out for a massive night with the What Car? team had my last cig last night and now I am stopping. Been off and on them for about 3 years but I really want to quit for good. I won't smoke this weekend as my girlfriend is around.

Anyone else stopping, 50% of smokers are ment to want to quit

Good luck, just think of the money you will be able to spend on computer crap now instead.

Good stuff mate! Its a hard road indeed, especially after the first couple of days. Just think of all the money you will save. Don't do it cold turkey, if you are really serious nicotine replacement is the way forward and gives you a much higher chance of quitting if you are really serious.

as the days go by and you get a hacking couch don't panic, its the tiny little hair-things in your oesophagus coming back to life wafting all the crap out of your lungs, so keep coughing it up and get it out and you'll get better
just have to push through it I'm afraid. no other way...

Hang out with as many germ-ridden people you can. Catch a lurgy, spend a week in bed being poorly and not feeling like/being able to smoke a cigarette as you are coughing so much anyway, then when you are better you have already got through the first week of not having a cigarette

I got pushed to try a cigarette when I was 16, and didn't touch it again... never saw what got people hooked. I've seen all of my family try to give up and fail, though, so I know secondhand how hard quitting is, particularly when you go out drinking.
Hopefully the new anti-smoking regulation will help that (when it comes in anyway).
Cold Turkey can be especially hard... I know some people that went for the money-saving strategy of only having roll-ups - they then have to be bothered to roll one whenever they want a smoke, so they don't smoke as often, and when they do it costs less (it's probably a useful step for chain-smokers as it's harder to chain-smoke when you also have to roll each one and they'd find it really hard to quit cold turkey).
Good luck in your efforts to stop - just don't get hooked on chewy sweets as a substitute!

    I'm giving up too dude.

I'm on the patches which seriously help the craving and I've found celery sticks are a good thing for the 'hand to mouth' habit. If I get a craving I go and sit wher I normally smoke and eat a few sticks of celery, it kind of helps relieve the craving.
