The tin can react with the stuff in the food, making it a bit poisonous.

i can imagine that old fasioned tins like you got back-in-the-day could cause problems with the food, but not modern tins. Other than that though, it is a little gross don't you think? You get that horrible dried skin on the top of the food, or depending on what was in the tin it would dry out and dicolour. Also more chance iof it going off quicker as it isn't in a sealed container any more.

its the tin/zinc stuff that lines the insides of the can. put left-overs in a bowl and ditch the can safely.
