    Moaning/Complaining in office = sack?

Well it seems to in this BBC news story, and i'm not sure how many of you like a moan in the office but i certainly do, usually about the people running the company and how i disagree with what they are doing.

    http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/world/europe/4599004.stm

But this company has imposed into peoples contracts and they've followed through and sacked 3 people for complaining in the office.

I'd have probably been sacked too if i worked there hehe

heh, it would kinda go something like this for me im guessing.

"hi welcome, nice to have you working for us"
    "hey, your coffee kinda sucks"
    "fired"

heh, on a serious note.. that sucks... =\ to complain about your work is what NEEDS to be done to get though the day its what EVERYONE likes to do and it makes them feel better i really wouldnt last over a day ^ ^

hang on, but what if you moan in a "jokey way" would that too get you fired ?

I sometimes do this to a few people to break the stress of each day...

so.. would I or wouldn't I get fired if I worked there?

... I'd say yes as they are not really well known for their sense of humour are they

I would like that to include cattiness.
The place I work is full of women and sometimes I wish they would keep their negative opinions of others to themselves!

I think something should be done when people consistently moan at work, especially when there are only a few of you.

I work with five other women and the bitchiness and moaning really gets me down, it's hard to be enthusiastic about your job when others drag you down

I think its a lot worse for you when you only have 5 collegues you cant get away with it.
I can just ignore it and stay in the IT office to avoid it
Still bothers me when someone comes in and starts bitching about someone else though

I always point out to them that if they put as much effort into doing something about what they don't like then there wouldn't be problems, i always ask if they can change whats bugging them if they can't then it's not worth getting worked up about.

And i hate it when the bitchiness is directed at an individual, it's not fair and there's no need for it.

I'd take these bastards to the european court of human rights. It's your right to have a good moan (now and again) Their policy is simply one of making up an excuse to fire people if they don't like them. On the other hand German employment laws are pretty strict and it is very very difficult to get rid of a poorly performing employee. I have to say it is pretty awful when you get a persistent moaner in the office, but good management should sort that out.

If somethings wrong in your organisation, and moaning is an effective way of letting the people above you that they need to improve the working environment then that's called "constructive criticism".

If suddenly you're not allowed to criticise or complain about anything, then you'll end up with people being afraid to raise concerns they may be having, and the bosses will say "lets all spend 10million pounds on bean bags for chairs" and then they'll go bankrupt.

A Healthy work environment would LET you talk to bosses about complaints and problems and help resolve the problems.
