More importantly, are the BNP planning a mass protest over a Swede coming over here and taking a job from a real Brit?

    Any comment on that, Blue?

When we get eliminated I'm going to go around wearing a T-Shirt with "It Was The News Of The World Wot Lost It" on it.

Still, I think the FA will be to blame too- great, we're coming up to the biggest and most important tournament in the game, and we have a 'lame duck' manager with no real incentive to win. Excellent. Why the stupid fools haven't just sacked him outright is a mystery to me- probably too busy shagging their secretaries.

It's not over atall....Bobby Robson went into the 1990 world cup in a similar situation & it was only pens in the semi that took it away from us...I still think that in terms of players england have a real chance this time. Terry Lampard Gerrard, Rooney are four of the best in the world, & pretty much all the rest of the team is world class...well, maybe not Garry Neville
If a man talks in a forest & there's no woman around....
    Is he STILL wrong?

Love the way news of the world is getting the full blame here If Sven wasn't a money grabbing back handing dodgy dealing tit he wouldn't of been in the papers in the first place

Anyway, watch Rugby instead much more interesting than footy

Not sure how closely some of you follow the football or how well you understand the game, but I'll just point out that winning the World Cup for a manager is the Holy Grail. Sven has his motivation - the glory, the boost to his reputation. To suggest that he now will not be bothered if he wins or not is wrong.

Every player, manager and fan wants to win the World Cup. Sven is no different.

The man has one of the most high profile jobs in the world, and like every other England manager before him, his success will be viewed in results.

Win the World Cup for England and he is walking on water, regardless of his position before the tournament.

And Rave - as explained, he has more 'incentive to win' than you can imagine, and the FA haven't sacked him because to do so this close to a World Cup would be a disaster. The new man hasn't enough time.

Sven will lead us to the next World Cup, then he will go, either remembered as a reasonable manager who had too many 'incidents' during his time, or (if we win) as the most successful English manager for 40 years.

Right- which is why he was in Dubai offering to spend his time scouting for some sheik and tapping up Becks. The whole point is that the man didn't have his attention focussed on the job.

Time to do what? Have a couple of affairs, and figure out how best to lose games from 1-nil up?

    What????

Rave and Stewart agreeing on something?

That's it, I'm not devoting all my time to porcine aviation... If those two can agree on something I can damn well get this Wessex/Saddleback cross to fly...

I also think that the news of the world journos are a bunch of cocks for doing it now.
It certainly did us no favours and has no doubt created bad feeling in the team.

Seeing some of the video, they made it seem worse than it was.

The sun/NOTW really get on my tits. You always see headlines along the lines of
thanks to the sun this happened etc. It appears at least 4 times everyday.

If england win the headline will be england wins thanks to the sun/notw

Well, I think you can be England manager and speak to other people in an informal manner. Its not like the other bloke was the Villa chairman or anything. He should have been more careful, but its unlikely to have any impact providing we win our first game. Results are all that matters really. The 'tapping up Becks' (lowering yourself a bit using that sort of Sun phrase, aren't we? ) stuff as well as the Villa stuff were the discussion of a situation that could come to be after the world cup.

Its nothing what he's said really, but for some reason the News of the World though it would be a good idea to do this in World Cup year. I fully support hatchet jobs on Liberal leadership candiates, but leave the Swede alone!

Time to do what? Have a couple of affairs, and figure out how best to lose games from 1-nil up?
Well - we go into this World Cup in a strong position. Won our qualifying group, got a decent group at the finals, just beat Argentina, lots of young, world class players in the squad. Its all there. So, if the FA kick Sven out now, and they bring someone in, it creates a problem.

Just as you never make a substiution when defending a corner, you never change the national manager in world cup year.

If he was going to be sacked, it need to be during the various private life scandels we had in the recent past, when there was enough time to get the new man in before the finals.

Sven has the support of the players, and once they are out in Germany, thats all that matters, and the FA know that the way to give England the best chance of doing well is to not upset things this close.

In short, Sven would have to do something amazingly, unbelivably, catastrophically bad to get sacked before Germany 2006. The mans job is as safe as houses until England have kicked their last ball, then he is gone before you can say right-wing propaganda.
