Yeah, I was thinking they must have been arguing about something or other. Seems like a Cheney way of dealing with people who disagree with him...

It's funny. Usually, when you hunt game birds, everyone stands right next to each other. It's actually kind of hard to shoot another person on accident. I guess he didn't take a hunter's safety course.

I read a rumour that he'd been drinking and that he had an alcohol test but they delayed it for 14 hours which makes it kind of pointless.

Anyway the guy has now had a heart attack in hospital and is 78 or some advanced age so I wonder if he will make it.

Better yet - Cheney was actually poaching; his hunting license didn't have an upland game stamp on it (cost $7), so if he HAD hit a quail, then he'd be liable for a fine . That said, I'm not sure what the cost for an upland lawyer stamp is...perhaps they give you a rebate on the license?

I hope the guy who got shot makes a full recovery. It's an awful accident. The injured man was a lawyer and the following quote from the BBC site made me chuckle:

"He is now sitting up and eating regularly - and even preparing some legal work, according to a spokesman for the Christus Spohn Hospital in Corpus Christi, Texas."

Oh, yes...and we can guess what the first suit he'll file to celebrate his recovery'll be...
"Whittington v. Cheney", tortious liability for negligently inflicted personal injury...

An apology is an admission of guilt. Remember, he shot a lawyer!

Yeah, but negligence is a type of unintentional tort. He shot a lawyer. Do you really believe that he was negligent? It's battery

And battery is an intentional tort. Negligence, by the way, is not in and of itself a form of tort, it is a basis upon which liability for a tort can be established; that is to say someone may intentionally commit a tort or negligently do so.
