    Anybody fancy testing some software?

So basically I've spent the last year writing this new web gallery system for my site. It's not taken a year because it's complicated, I'm just really lazy - although there have been a lot of technical challenges.

So far I've tested on IE6 and Firefox 2, and did have some positive feedback from a Safari user a few weeks ago. If anyone fancies having a poke with it and seeing if you can break it, I would really appreciate it

    Main gallery: niknak.org - gallery - Pictures

Albums with sub-albums and pictures. Simple stuff. Each album/picture in thumbnail state should have a little info pop-up when you hover on it (this does not apply when viewing a picture). There's a slider system so that you can view other pictures in the same album, when viewing a picture. That's the bit that's most likely to fall over. Other things to watch for are images that don't appear (there's quite a bit of stuff happening regarding path translations, plenty to go wrong!) or images appear garbled due to resizing/resampling. Performance may be hit and miss at the moment while it's building a decent cache.

Let me know what you think

    Thanks

Oh, and in case you're wondering, it's .NET 2.0, none of that PHP rubbish thankyouvermuch

Re: Anybody fancy testing some software?

If looks ok to me in firefox 2

It doesn't work correctly using Opera 9.2 - ignore the below if you are not look for compatibility with Opera.

The 'hover over the image' displays the url sometimes and sometime the pop up is display but clipped to the boundary of the image you are hovering over.

main page the misc album link is blank/black looks ok in firefox 2, the link if different

edit opps messed up the links

    firefox:
    Code:
    http://niknak.org/g/misc/smooth2.jpg/0/crop-square/maxsize-50

    Opera:
    Code:
    http://niknak.org/g/misc/engine-startsmall.jpg/0/crop-square/maxsize-50

    Thanks

I will install Opera and have a look at the issues. Be aware that you are probably seeing 2 different images (in the situation you described) because the system picks a random image from the gallery to use as a thumbnail for that gallery.

Re: Anybody fancy testing some software?

I had a quick look using Konqueror 3.5.8 on my Linux box (Ubuntu Linux 7.10). It mostly works fine, but I did find that once I entered a gallery and started navigating around pictures I often only got the small version, not the bigger image. See this screenshot:

The other problem is that everything looks rather small on my 1600x1200 monitor. Perhaps you could use a bit of javascript to detect the size on the window, and scale appropriately.

Re: Anybody fancy testing some software?

Thanks, just fixed the small image problem. There were some old thumbnail files floating around that I'd forgotten to delete.

Point taken about screen size. I never browse full screen so I didn't spot that, plus of course the site is designed around the narrow centre column.
