well, I guess its because I'v been doing it for about 10, 11 years now (started when I was teeny-weeny, and still am - but not where it counts ) and its just second nature to me. we actually beat the club's 1st crew that was meant to be faster than us - we kicked 'em by quite some way, so we're happy.
think I'm racing again in a couple of weekends time, and then its my birthday!! woohoo!! so there
I also scull (one blade in each hand) and I seem to be reasonable at that - beating lots of VERY big guys (ogres...), ok so I'm quite good but I don't really like to go around blaring out my ego
    ...much..

I used to play rugby at Club 1st XV and County level, I also played for the ATC at Wing level, unfortunately then i managed to screw my knees up

I moved to freestyle kickboxing and judo after that, they are gentle by comparison

I used to bbe on the wing too - until I buggered my neck up, oh well, I actually prefer the rowing anyway; no one is gonna run after you and deck you, little guys (like me!) can still do well and kick the arses of bigger guys (very satisfying) and to me there's nothing much better than a boat moving at warp factor diddly...

Took up rowing with my college last term. Only been rowing in eights as we're preparing for the novice's regatta at the end of this term.

Loving it so far. Despite being one of the slimmest guys training (been a while since I was weighed, but not even 11 stone on a 5'11'' frame) I pulled a damn respectable erg and am currently at bow for the Novice A's

Heh, really thrown myself into the training, all the muscle building on the leg is really helping with the knee injury that I had so I've found I'm able to indulge in my old habbits again (biking, running, squash). Also meant I've had less time to spend over here

you rowers......its all WAY too strenous for me. Let me give you an example.....the MOST WORK I have done recently was lifting a table for a LAN Party that [MA]arlins Squadron had at my house...and it killed my back

So I give up with exercise.......I'm just too lazy.

However....soon as I know when I am next skiing, I'll be swimming twice a week and doing the old Leg Strengtheners again.

    God I love skiing

Dr X - nice one, keep at it, but don't over do it on the weights, sound like you have a bit of growing still to do so just let it happen, by all means do them just don't over do them...

    compare these two sports;
hurling yourself with all your might down a river, backwards
    or
being propelled downwards by gravity at increasing speeds on a pair of frictionless planks with limited control...

I gave up skiing a while ago - rather save my legs thanks.

Thats all part of the fun. I went ski-ing for the first time about a year ago and am yearning to go again. Anyone who hasnt't tried ski-ing should defintly give it a go if they get the chance. Nothing else like gliding down slope (preferably black ) at full pelt. The rush you get from the speed, theres nothing else like it

yeah, I know, it is fun but now I'm sort of serious about my rowing I don't want to slip up and cripple myself...not brilliant
