Someone left a note on a piece of cake in the fridge that said, "Do not eat!". I ate the cake and left a note saying, "Yuck, who the hell eats paper ?
I wonder if he pocketed a profit?

LMFAO. Can u belive it?Microsoft was busy covering up an almighty cock-up last night after forgetting to renew its hotmail.co.uk domain name.
YES!!!!!!![]()
Should read their emails more often i reckon.lol
yeh tey would because if you register the same domain as a business without having a business reason yourself (i.e you just register it to spite a company) the courts will rip it back off you and youll have to pay the court feesOriginally posted by Planetside

yup. just wrote some computing homework about that (too much theory, not enough coding dammit), something about some anticybersquatting american act doo dar which means that if the person purchased the domain name with the intent to make profit due to it being a trademark the person has no power, and the courts tell the person to give it to the trademark owners

Not sure an american law would stand up in a british court!
How can a company own the trademark of a site it doesn't own?
The company I work for own its .com domain but not some obscure .frdsas domain absolutely jack we can do about it (although not sure how much we have tried as its that obscure).

Daniel you miss 1 small but incredible vital point.
Microsoft have a team of lawyers in every country to do their bidding, they get a retainer every year and they just do what MS say, so sueing even if they didn't win would cause the poor chap who bought the domain a lot of money in court costs and lawyers fees.
Microsoft could well make him PAY Through the nose for the domain.
Say at least £4K costs.
i'd give it back to them for as much as i could get out of them. I doubt it would be much more than £100 or £1000 if he's really lucky.
Still thats a tidy little profit on what could be as little as about a £10.

I don't see how they can sue? Its their own problem ...
And you'd be willing to try and take Microsoft on in court, YER right. All the media coverage you'd be getting, the phone calls for your side of the story etc, and then the fact i'd rather not setup a gay porn site ta.

Yeah but then you could take it down and make it a donations site, and if everyone who doesnt like microsoft gave you £1....
Just think how rich you'd be!
