Their new CPU is apparently called a "Prescott" hummmm Obviously they don't keep track of UK politics....
Can just imagine their ad line now:
"Prescott - the all new Intel processor (dumm ding ding ding ding).... It really packs a punch...."

So is it just called the Intel prescott instead of pentium? If so i think thats a mistake. Best to keep the familiar brand going. Plantly of muppets will buy a computer just because its a pentium "WOW its a pentium duuuude its must go like s**t off a shiny shovel" "can you imagine how quick the net access is gona be"
Isn't Prescott the core or somethign? Thought it was

yea prescott is the fat bloke who punched a reporter iirc
i think they should change brand name, esp get rid of that fkn annoying dummm dinnggggg dinngggg diinnhhhhggggg (which is trademarked or something - an advert has to play it if it mentions pentium)
he wasnt a reporter, he was a peasent (like us) tryin to act hard, and got a slap

If you actually watch the recorded fight, said peasant definitely wins on a point’s decision.

It's still an Intel Pentium, it's core is just called Prescott, same as with the Northwood or other core names. Name may be used a lot like it was with the PIII coppermines or not at all like the original cartidge Athlons. All depends on how similar the other chips with the same name but different core are.

urgh...reminds me one time when I wandered (misguidedly) into PCworld with my dad, ok so we were after something like a cheap cd-rw drive but then we wandered over to the laptops and desktops...
one pikey was trying to talk up a computer that "was really good", very fast on the internet and good for playing games...
so thats 128mb ram, a CELERON!! and some rubbishy intergrated graphics thing workign at about 32mb... all for a meagre sum of £599...!
it was at this point I gave the shop assistant the look of death (short of telling him to go hang himself) asked a few pointed questions, the kind any self respecting computer sales person SHOULD know...clearly PCworld has a different view on what they need to know. its a tragic thing that they think your CPU makes you faster on the net...
"...does this mean I don't need to fork out for broadband!! bargain!! ... "
hmmmm...

Some people's theories on how computers operate are just so amusing it hurts

You can blame Intels marketing for that 'SSE makes the web go faster', 'Centrino will connect you to the internet from the top of everest'.
First advert got banned IIRC and theres a huge amount of complaints about the second, so that might get taken off to.
Now go away before I taunt you a second time.
God that soddin advert pisses me off, some idiot at work was going to buy a laptop off the back of that. He thought he could just buy it and voila internet with no wires or more money, actually hes not the only one to ask me about that.
Pity the advernt doesent show the poor bstard trying to get his satelite phone to work, start the generator because the laptop battery is running out, then trying to find a gang lead to plug the wireless router into, because hes mates in the other tent want to grab some porn of kazaa to keep themeselves warm. Alas all doomed the cheap arse ISP hes using just went tits up so he cant log on anyway. And his other email account is locked out because of the shear amount of SPAM hes getting.
AHHHHHHH bloody intel

Actually I thought that laptop was quite realistic, as ealier the same day I was talking to someone who has seen these big WiFi masts set up for the rescue services to use up there, and they have roughly a 15 Mile range (not omnidirectional, obviously).
That and he may have been using a Bluetooth phone and GPRS....
