Nah, that doesn't ring a bell with me either and google's not throwing back any useful information.
Funny thing is i've tryed that but get "Call failed" and it is the right numberOriginally Posted by ibm
i think thats the NTL engineers number.
edit: dial 1741 on your phone, then put the receiver down, and it should ring...check the number with 1471 and it should be that.
edit 2: just tried it on mine but the 1741 doesnt work anymore, must have changed it.

It could be a gateway number. For example, my housemate is an engineer at Honda. If he calls me from work, the gateway number shows up on my caller ID instead of his actual work phone number.

At least it wasn't someone flogging you another mobile phone.
It could have been a VoIP number and the person who's rang has not set their voicemail and redirects, so when you rang back it said failed![]()
It's 1471 mate that's whyOriginally Posted by Clunk

I bet its a sales call.
Getting them all the time now even on my mobile.
Re: 0161 216 0041 / 01612160041
I had a missed call at 16:02 and when I tried calling it back - on my mobile and using my work landline - the line just went dead. Dialling 1741 didn't work.
I reckon it's a sales call from an outbound-calls-only contact centre. Best to ignore it.
I've encountered the same thing in the past with other numbers. Be wary in case you get trapped into a high-rate charge call or something similar. Best to hang up immediately if you get through to anyone you don't know.
