    Flight Simulator Sessions

Right. It's my brother's 30th in a couple of weeks (which I am missing since I am on the other side of the planet, which is quite frustrating but there we go) and I was thinking of getting him an afternoon in a flight simulator. A proper one. I found this:

    http://www.buyagift.co.uk/cgi-bin/bu...n/Product/4041

Which looks pretty good, but I was wondering if anyone had done anything like this, or knows of somewhere better? He lives in London, so suggesting somewhere in Scotland will get you a slap with a big tuna.

Oh, I found this too, but it's slightly out of my budget

    Bugger

my g/f was going to get me that for xmas, looking at the price I don't think its going to happen now

I'd recommend the real thing - seriously. My g/f got me a half hour lesson in a Cessna at Redhill aerodrome, just north of Gatwick a/p.

Bloody fantastic experience. If he wants a simulator get him the microsoft one

The MiG-25 one might be just shy of 11 grand, but it is in the fastest fighter in the world!

BTW, you have to wear a space suit to fly it!

The MiG-25 or 'Foxbat' to give it its NATO code name is currently officially the world's fastest fighter jet. I have heard of a project called Phoenix in the USA which supposedly has a faster fighter in testing, but, like the SR-71 'Blackbird' did for about 30 years, it currently 'does not exist'.

It's ok, I've found the info for you.....

    Fastest Combat Jet
The fastest combat jet is the Soviet Mikoyan MiG-25 fighter (NATO code name Foxbat). The reconnaissance Foxbat-B has been tracked by radar at about Mach 3.2 or 3,395 km/h (2,110 mph). The MiG-25 was designed as a high-altitude interceptor, and over 1,200 have been built. The single-seat Foxbat-A has a wingspan of 13.95 m (45 ft 9 in), is 23.82 m (78 ft 2 in) long and has an estimated maximum take-off weight of 37.4 tonnes (82,500 lb).

    Yeah - it is.

A fighter / interceptor designed to blow high altitude US bombers spyplanes out of the stratosphere, basically the soviets built a plane capable of taking off and getting to extreme altitudes very quickly. (41,000ft a minute)

I believe its top speed is Mach 3 at 42,000ft. It is the fastest fighter plane in the world.

And Skii is right, it was designed to intercept US bomber and spy planes, which operate at very high altitudes. It looks very much like a dart from the side.

And the one that got away....

    quote
    -------
In the afternoon of September 6, 1976, with only 30 seconds of fuel remaining, a MiG-25, one of Soviet Russia's most prized and secret weapons, broke through the clouds above Hakodate, Japan, narrowly avoided a departing Japanese airliner, and dove down to the city's commercial airport where, in front of hundreds of amazed Japanese motorists, it landed—screeching, skidding, blowing a tire, plowing 800 feet off the runway, and finally stopping a few feet from a large antenna. Viktor Belenko had arrived in the West. Unlike the defections of athletes, artists, and diplomats who knew the truth about the United States, Belenko knew little other than the lies of Soviet propaganda. As a jet fighter pilot he was one of the elite of the Soviet military; with his future secure he had the best which that society could offer. But the lies, hypocrisy, and corruption inherent in that system made living there intolerable.
