Not sure that most of you will know what a vacuum cleaner is? (living with parents, hiding in darkened rooms playing games and eating pizza etc)....
but.. I need a new one! :(
Got a Dyson DC07 at the moment, but it's 4yrs old and on it's way out, keeps overheating and turning off.
So whats hot and whats not, in the land of hoovers? :)
the dyson DC01 at home keeps clogging up easily but it does get some heavy use. My housemate's dyson at home is pretty rubbish too, she reckons.
Don't have any reccomendations though.
tescos have got the dc08 origin for 139.00. if thats any use, seems to be cheaper than everywhere else i think.
Stick with the Henry cleaners .. they're nice and reliable :)
I have the Dyson DC14 all floors model. It's great had it for about 1 and a half years and it's still going very well indeed. It's 10x better than my mum origional DC01.
We also keep a Vax around for shampooing the carpet.
Go for a miele. Had mine for about 4 years now, still going strong. Fairly pricey compared to other vacuum cleaners, but well worth the money. Build quality is excellent.
If you don't want a Numatic, get a Sebo. They kick the crap out of Dysons and are actually worth the cash.
Our DC07 would overheat if the pre-motor filter gets clogged, which it seems to do quite a bit these days.
Dysons are actually a piece of cake to pull apart and service though, I took ours apart and blasted the motor out with some pressurised air and the amount of dust that came out was quite nasty. It only overheated if I forgot to wash the filter after that, whereas before it was cutting out all too often.
We have an Elecrolux, reliable thus far, had it a couple of yers now. Has to cope with 4 kids & the dog :) No idea what model it is till I get home from work & have a looky.
Gotta say I'd get another Dyson... We've got the Purple & Green DC-04 and it's alright, getting on towards a good few years old, but shows no signs of dying.
The Dyson's are the daddies without spending loads, so keep with them :)

I have a DC02 going strong (after a motor repair a couple of years ago) that I can't justify replacing - it still works AOK, so why spend more?

Got a DC04 also and it's the bees knee. But as David says above the Henrys are also fantastic. The good thing about Henry vacs, they are built like a bloody battleship and the suction can beat any 2 dorrah whore out there.Quote:

If you can't afford both you should choose based on what type of floors you have.
My Dyson DC03 still going strong after 4 years. I would also replace it with another Dyson if it ever packed in.

Hoover, Miele or Henry tbh. I'm not a fan of Dysons. They look absolutely ridiculous for one!
Ah yes! I forgot Miele, they REALLY are the best, how could I forget! But Henry come second.
Coco - did you know that for £55 Dyson will come out and overhaul your existing cleaner? And from what I have read that includes parts (we bought a new one before finding that out - though I managed to get it back out the bin!!)Quote:

Got one of those purple and green dyson things. Apparently the one specially for people with animals. The only good part of it is the stair attachment with a beater bar on it. Other than that, it's badly designed (the filters are always popping out), badly made and clogs constantly. It's latest trick is taking about 30 seconds to get up to full suction.
The previous one was an electrolux that cost 1/4 of the dyson. OK, it wasn't quite so swish in some areas and died in the same amount of time, but you could have 4 of them to one dyson!
Whats worse, I recently got so fed up with the thing I got out the 'Hoover Turbo Power' that dates from the 80s some time I think. Thing picked up a load of dog hair the dyson wasn't touching.
