Recently I finished university and am currently looking for a job. I decided a week or 2 ago that I would sign up with a job agency. So there i go and sign up with an agency in my area. They tell me that we dont often get the type of work you require in but we will do our best to find something suitable.
I few days pass until i get a phone call from the agency checking that i am still available and they would like to forward my CV to a company in Sunderland.
A few hours later i receive an email via the HEXUS online form asking me to phone this guy who has received my CV. It was the IT manager from the company, www.mi-services.co.uk
I phoned him and had a long chat about what the company does and what im after, what i done at university etc... He told me over the phone that if he was to employ me that he didnt want to go through the agency. They charge 18% of whatever my first year's wages are. So for example if i was on £10k a year, the agency would demand £1,800 from the company. Absolutly stupid!!!
So I arranged on the phone an interview for today at 10am. I arrived at the office. The carpark was littered with Audi TT's, Porsche 911's, Audi RS6's, etc... We disccused his requirements, tried to delve into what knowledge i have or dont have about computing. I have to admit the job he is offering if im successful is a little complicated and over my head but training is provided. They are even willing to put employees through MCSE, Cisco Courses, etc.
After a lengthy discussion he then showed me around the office and server rooms... Jeez i was VERY impressed.... We walked into a room with around 50 rack's full of servers and other hardware. Very Very Impressive. It was extremely noisy too. When your used to a small shuttle sitting on your desk with papst fans and then walk into a server room it's a big difference. I found it quite ammusing that they have 2 x 2mb leased lines on site and Daemon Internet are based next door to the office. Blisteringly quick i bet!!! Very few hops!
So fingers crossed i may receive a phone call saying, you've got the job. I hope so cause the salary is extremely good for a graduate.![]()
