Hi everyone, i have besides me a maxtor 80gb sata hard drive which has recently died on me. My childish and pathetic side is dieing to do something radical to destroy it. I'm just wondering whether any of you ladies or gentleman have any suggestions of something fun to do with a dead hard drive. Any tips welcome and pics will be posted of the finished product.

The hammer technique is always fun, but not very original. However, plugging it in afterwards and hearing it cack itself is always amusing :)

Undo it and take out the platter(s) then turn it into some sort of vile windchime?
disect it and take out its dead slowly beart heart! arrrrggghh
Take the magnets out. They are Über powerful and can cause all sorts of havoc with fingers, trapping skin and causing blood blisters.
They also make great fridge magnets.... thats if you don't want things removing from the fridge :)
Run over it with a steam roller!
Eat a vindaloo and do a big fart on it, then have competitions with your friends seing who can corrupt the most data, with their corrupt emissions.
Wasn't there a website where people posted pics of stuff they'd made out of dead hdds? i'm sure someone made a clock out of one?
If you're an American, just blow it away with a shotgun. I know it's kind of cliche, but it still feels really good to nail that sucker. If you're a limey, I don't know...

find out how many french bangers you need to seperate the platters.
no screw drivers or any tools other than french bangers allowed.
Well I gotta say I'm impressed with the suggestions, looks like me opening it up is a good option, if i just had a torx screw driver, hmmmmm well i could just drill out the screws. never realised they had really powerful magnets inside,, will give that a try :D
Take the lid off and plug it in and watch it spin and go crazy. It's quite fun to watch. FOr about 5 minutes. Then destroy it

If you open it up and hold a needle against the platter as you're spinning it, you'll be able to hear all your MP3s.
great i was looking at buying some technics turntables i just need another dead hard drive and a mixer :D

the first thing you should do is check it aint under warranty :)
assuming it aint , open it up connect on old at psu to it, fill with isopropyl ignite apply power and seek shelter :mrgreen:
take it apart and plateau it as a cut-out .. i'll post a pci of someone's n64 controller done in the same way later so you get an idea of what i mean
i have 5 hdds that are all dead or hav capacity under 1gb and i screwed them all together and made a shelf lol :D looks pretty funky actually
mod it into a corby trouser press.

ok seems mum thru out my hdd shelf so im guna make anuva one this weekend as i need somewhere to store my cds
take the lid off and connect it up so it spins, then spray flammable things onto the platters to see if they can be ignited while spinning at 12005824.7 rpm :D
