XTR's story of the day!

We all know Crashes arent funny... but i have seen a brilliant one which im sure will make most people cringe, especially Zak.


There i was driving along to the Renault garage cause i need a new engine mount. So on the A690 at sunderland there is the renault garage on one side of the dual carrageway and Reg vardys on the opposite side. Reg Vardys sell all the lush cars. The forecourt is covered in Audi TT's, Ferrari's, Bentleys, Jags, Aston Martins, etc... It's that type of place where you wanna go just to try and convince the sales man for a test drive.

To cross the A690 to get to the renault garage there is a tricky crossroads. Bear in mind cars are coming at ya at 70mph+ since its a dual lane carrage way. Im sitting patiently waiting for a large gap for my turn to move. When i seen a yellow ford transit van clip the curb down the road at quite a high speed. It through him into lane 2, but he seemed to control it quite well and passed the junction i was waiting at. So i seen a gap and checked the road was clear. The road was clear but the yellow transit van was sitting on top of 3!!! THREE!!!! Audi TT's. I eventually managed to cross the road and park up at the Renault dealers. The Sales Man at Reg Vardys were going mad!!!! It was a horrible sight... A big rusty old diesel transit van sitting on top of 3 gorgeous £29k Audi TT's.

When i left Renault the police, fire bridge had all turned up and started closing the road. I decided since i had seen earlier events of what the van had done i went and spoke to the police. Ive gave them my name and address and a statement of what i seen.

I came home and told my brother what had happened so he's now jumped into his car equipped with his digital camera. So who knows... we might have some photos to chuckle at.

and this kids, is why you shouldnt speed. Stick to 50mph and be overtaken by every other car on the road, but be safe in the knowledge ^^^ that wont be you :p

those cars will be all off sale for AGES, and even then they'll be repsrayed and never as lovely as before....

From outside the trade, that looks really funny...can see it....but from inside....that would cost me dearly, to lose all that stock from being sold.

I'm finding it difficult understanding what the hell happened... :confused:

Basically a van cliped the curb at 70mph and smashed into 3 Audi TT's outside a main dealership. :)

The way it happened and how the van got to that position is still beyond me. I see crahes and wonder how the heck that could have happened. I couldn't do it if I tried!

Maybe it did a Ace Ventura style roll. I wonder how much his insurance will go up to next time :D

Erm, driving about 69mph cliped the curve and bonced onto three Audi TT's.

reminds of that email that goes around every so often with quotes from insurance claims. One guy had hit a cow and the question on the form was "Did the other party say anything after the incident" and the guy wrote "mooo". Priceless :)

This is why i don't leave the house anymore, too dangerous.

Maybe he clipped the curb in the 1st place as he was having a heart attack, ok so the guys dead and thats sad news for his family but lets not turn this into a speed kills rant eh....

lol i remember seeing an old couple try to go the wrong way up a moterway once they came off the round about past the correct exit and were only stopped from getting very far up the wrong lane by waiting traffic god knows how he didnt notice them?!?

lol the old bloke across the street who has an old escort whenever he goes out revves it to hell only 1 time amongst the revves was a bang then a lot more revves as he mounted the path barly missed a wall and drove off after backing into a parked car ,he came back 10mins l8r saying he didnt even know he had done it :p

very true howard. Its just a number, I know many capable "old" drivers, with plenty of experience, taking more care than many younger drivers. :rolleyes:

Some old drivers might be good drivers but out of all the people caught speeding its older people not they younger ones....

well yes I take your point not all old drivers are bad drivers and some younger drivers are really bad (I dont really fall into that catagory as im 22 and ive been driving for 4 and a half years).

My g/f granddad drove us to a bus stop once (didnt have a car at the time) and I have never seena worse example of driving EVER. we were coming up to a crossroads and about 50 yards away I noticed them going amber. he seemed not to notice and at 20 yards they were red, Just as I said "those are red you know" he ****ing put his foot down and drove straight through at about 45mph (speed limit was 30) now I drive fast sometimes but I am nowhere near as reckless as that.

having said that my dad is 51 now and in all honesty he is a good driver as he has been driving all of his life in his work (owns a garage and does recoverys) and I really cant see him being a bad driver in 10 years. but in all honesty you really should have to re sit ya test at 60 just to check you havent turned into a moron.

also how can you say older men are good drivers? didnt you read that story, 62 year old man flips a van at 70mph onto 3 brand new TT`s killing them and himself. how can you say older men are good drivers? thats a generalisation not supported by this example

I didn't mean better drivers than anyone, and of course there are always exceptions to every rule.

I just don't believe you should be saying 62 year olds (hardly elderly either) are terrible drivers.

well, I dunno how old you are but imo 62 is old, some people fare better with age but I think that there should be a re-test at 60.

yup, has nothing to do with age imo. Though old people do SEEM to be totally inept drivers ;)

There are plenty of young morons on the road as well. I know a young driver who thinks nothing of texting on her phone while driving and the road is not a consideration either :eek: phone calls are bad enough but textin ffs :rolleyes:

And an old guy who used to think nothing of driving after 5 pints :eek: though to be fair drink drivinf did used to be a lot more socially accepatable- like smoking

erkkk i've done that before... but i personally think its quite possible to text and drive... not advised but its possible without distraction. I can text without looking at my phone so all my attention is on the road. All it takes is a quick glance to check its all correct and then send it :)

I used to do it with my old phone because I was able to do it without looking at the phone, I am not used to my new one tho and I havnt done it for ages anyway, any1 remember the story about the truck driver who was texting and ran over a cyclist at washington services...?

also you should all be aware that on 1st december driving whilst holding a handset will be illegal, full stop. £1000 fine.. ouch.

Van drivers must cause enough crashes, they drive like total maniacs, and old people are totally inept. Ever hear the story of the old woman who wasnt paying attention at the wheel, suddenly say a red light stamped on the accelerator and mowed down 3 people, happened not far from where i live. She was like 80 years old.

Ouch unlucky :(

trannies are quite hard to drive - one i had over the summer for a job i was doing had no blindspot mirrors so basically you could see nothing behind or alongside your left hand side. nightmare on the dual carrigway

I hired a transit in october and it was a piece of cake to drive. I've driven them before and never noticed a problem. They have those curved mirrors on them dont they? All the ones I've driven have and this fills in the blind spot.

newer one i had did. the older one (thinking about it - might have been a pug) didnt have blindspot (curved) mirrors so you couldnt see alongside. either way you got nowt idea whats directly behind you
