    Ipod Video Encoding

I've recently bought an ipod video and i'm wanting to convert my avi's mpeg's into ipod compatable files (mpeg4 i think). I could buy quicktime pro but i'm not going to. So far i've found a couple of pieces of free software one being Videora iPod Converter. Its quite a good program and works but it messes around with windows and turns my autologon off. So i play around and turn autologon on again but one reboot later and i'm back to square one. The only way to sort it is to do a system restore. So i'm on the look out for a new program that doesn't do the above.
    Cheers

ipod should have no problems with iso level mpeg 4... mpeg4 is the new mpeg2
microsoft's encoders can handle this with no problems,
so window's movie maker should be able to export this. i'm off to work now, so can't look now unfortunately.

I spent ages getting used to the different programmes, the best, simplest and fastest that I found was 3gp converter - which is freeware. I have put it up on my space here:

    http://www.paulduggan.co.uk/Various/3GP.rar

inclusive of the ini file with tweakable settings. My tips are retain the video origin (PAL/NTSC) and encode to the highest reolution. The settings I use here are all within the macroblock limits that the player can handle.

plus - buy a camcorder video cable for £3 of ebay you can hook the ipod upto your tv!
