    the orange bar that says:
"Hello [enter name here] it appears that you have not posted on our forums in several weeks, why not take a few moments to ask a question, help provide a solution or just engage in a conversation with another member in any one of our forums?"

you probably only get it if you havn't posted 'in several weeks'...

First time I've seen the orange bar today also. It was about 6.30pm. I'd been having major troubles with the internet, no pages, no nothing for 20 minutes. Then it burst into life. When I logged on I had been logged out of Hexus for some reason.

There's been a change in the Matrix methinks

Change to talk talk from Eclipse about 5 months ago. I've regrettted it ever since. I used Eclipse for 3 years previously, the service was unbeatable tbh I only saved myself £5 a month 1mb/unlimited. It wasn't worth the saving. The old saying, "You get what you pay for" rings true. lots of dead links and dead net time

Funny thing was nothing worked, No MSN, Net Explorer, Fire Fox. Thought it could of been a vius. Checked the Xboxen360 that woouldn't connect either.

Apart from that is..........Steam (preloading Sin Epidosdes) and it was downloading at a healthy 40kb/s. Weird huh?

yeah but did you check your actual net usage? Steam is still a buggy piece of software (although it has improved slightly), it's unreliable as ever

I'm finding this out after not having it on my system since finishing HL2, 4 days after release. I didn't actually realise how crashable, unreliable and how long it takes to download any small amount of game info

Its a new feature that has been introduced here to get more people posting and not just browsing the forums

Hope it did not scare you too much !

Is it really a good idea? I've already seen a few people posting 'just to get rid of the orange bar'. Surley if they've got something useful to say, then they'd tell it, if not, they keep quiet. Fair enough, have one encouraging people to register, because then after that it's not that much harder to post something if they really want to.

Bacically I'm happy either way so long as people don't use this simply as an excuse to post something, and end up posting rubbish.

Yep I agree with Ajbrun. Adding a feature that notifies users when they have not posted in a while is more likely to discourage people from posting rather then encourage them.

To generalise, there are people who post all the time, people who post infrenquently (like myself) and some who do not post at all. As an infrequent poster who posts only when he/she sees a topic that is very interesting, this feature is seen as rather annoying
