How can you go into a tournament with a striker who hasn't even played in the premiership!
exactly my point.....although how can you go into a tournament with Peter Crouch
he will do well in the world cup, no1 would know how he plays and could surprise alot of people
spoken like a true Arsenal fan  tbh i can see him being dropped before the final team is announcedQuote:

If he doesnt live up to the expectation let's just hope he wont do anything stupid
I personally think it's not that bad a selection. I would have preferred to see SWP in the squad, but other than that I think he has made some interesting choices.
At World Cup level pace is so, so important. Even if Walcott doesn't touch the ball, he will create space just by running at defenders...
ditch: hargreaves, crouch, walcott
take: SW-P, defoe, reo-coker
What's the reason for not taking Defoe and SWP in ?
If the squad was in better shape - ie. Owen and Rooney were fully fit - This wouldn't have been such a gamble and would have made more sense.
The boy is obviously a major talent but it's got to be difficult to step up and play on the highest stage of World Football with even having played in the top division in your country AND have the expectation of winning it resting on your shoulders.
He could do well, in fact in could do really well I guess. However it definately wouldn't have been a lot of other managers would have made.
Sven has lost his mind. Why pick someone who hasn't played in the top flight and only made 3 appearances for Arsenal reserves. Sven has only seen him on video, the blokes gone mad. We need known goal scorers, Bent & defoe are better, i would even pick reo-coker but Walcott, its too early for him.
He dont even care about england since he knows he is getting replaced!!
Aaron Lennon has had a much better season than SWP. That’s what happens when you go for the money over guaranteed squad status.
It’s a reckless gamble taking Theo in my opinion, especially given that Owen and Rooney aren’t fit. Theo might do well in the World Cup, then again he might choke. Basically Crouch our main striker at the moment, he’s scored 8 goals in the Premeirship this season. How many other top teams will have a main striker with such a poor rate. If Crouch wasn’t playing for a top 3 team I doubt he’d be even in the squad.
what could possibly be wrong with a Swede taking advice from a Frenchman about who should be in the England squad?
It is a desperate situation.
We are bereft of anyone resembling an international forward.
Sven might as well put Lampard and Joe Cole up front!
Only good news will be that the England players will be able to get off to their summer hols a bit earlier than they had expected.
Having said that about the strikers, I am willing to give Sven some benefit of the doubt because he has a decent record. Sven might be playing his cards close to his chest, perhaps (I hope) he’s thinking of playing Gerrard in behind Owen until (if) Rooney is fit in the later stages. I still can’t think of a good reason for picking Crouch. Sven tries to play crosses and long balls to Crouch because he’s tall. Crouch can’t head the ball, but he’s not bad with it at his feet sometimes.
:)
I personally think that squad has a nice balance, lennon has a played far more than SWP this season so his selection was justified, i dont see how anyone could argue that point but they are very similar players anyway.
Hargreaves, ok well i know he plays well in Germany, but i have never seen him play well for england, weather he came off the bench or started .... i would give his place to Ledley King if fit or Reo-cooker,
Walcott, from what i have seen from him he looks really good, mega fast, and all be it a gamble, but i am quite excited to see what he can do,
Im fairly impressed with the squad if im honest, and im glad for once that people are picked on current form rather than reputation, with the exception of Walcott, but other teams will know nothing about this kid and that could work in our favour.. if they drop of him a yard he will toast them for pace tbh ....
On another note Sol Campbell is the only i think shouldnt go, he has been Poor all season, I would have Taken Wes Brown
Regards
Agreed, i would not have picked SWP, he was stupid to sign for Chelsea, if he had stayed at Man City or moved to Liverpool or Arsenal (who were both in the hunt i believe) then he would be playing in Germany.Quote:

:(
I pray Walcott does the impossible, and comes up with stuff people have never seen before.
You can imagine the team managers all around the world, dredging the Hard Drive recorders in their living rooms, for coverage of his game play ;)
I'm not confident though :(
Why no Mr Wright Phillips?
Simply because he plays 1 in every 10 games and even that is from the bench ... he will deffo leave chelsea this summer ..Quote:

If Theo does get to play he'll be damn good (this is coming from me, a Saints fan).
He's amazingly fast and a brilliant striker/forward for a 17 year old ! (as was Owen many years ago). The only problem is that he's still a little lightweight, he needs to toughen up as a big heafty world class defender could snap him in two
^^^^ If they can get near him that is ....
:)
