    Any ideas (Making Lists of Files in Drives)?

    Hey Guys,
    Basically, I don't have the storage space to backup all of my files. However, I'd like to keep a record of the files I do have, in case I ever had to get hold of them again in the event of them getting lost/corrupted. For instance, I'd like to keep a record of all the files in my 'music' or 'funny programmes' folder.

    So I'm wondering, do you know any software which could, for instance, write those file/folder names to a text file in this kind of way:

    Music
    -> Michael Jackson
    -> Beat it
    -> Thriller
    -> Rap Star
    -> Generic Crap

    If anyone knew of some kind of script or program which could do this, I'd be most appreciative.

    Thanks, Xaneden.

    dir c: /s /b /o N > filename.txt

    or is that too 'raw'?

    (/s is for recursion, /b is for barenames, /o N is for alphabetical sorting)

    Just an idea, but for music wouldn't a Winamp Playlist Export do the job? I know it's HTML but you could copy + paste it out somewhere. Wouldn't do your other files though.

    Otherwise streetster's command-line version is good for both, but depending on what you need you may want to review the formatting afterwards.
