    My first work experience-esque thingy :)

    Hi folks, had my first taste of Work Experience today (kinda), after sorting out some cabling on 2 machines i'd help build at a lunchtime computer building club, I asked if there was anything else IT related I could help with.

    5 minutes later i'm with the person who runs the school network, doing stuff for her - fantastic day, really enjoyed it!

    I didn't do much, but in total I;
    Removed one NIC from a PC
    Replaced one CD-Rom Drive
    Replaced 2 Hard Drives
    Tidied up the server room (always gotta do the basic jobs too!)

    And apparently, i'm rather good at it
    Fantastic fun, hopefully i'll be able to do it again sometime.

    Cheers,
    David

    Lucky ****, i got landed working in Boots cos my previous placement was 'unavailabe because some staff were removed from the company' - i just think that it's a polite way of saying 'the bloke who runs our department was fired'

    [I know this thread is going to make me feel more and more hard done by as everyone else posts their cool techy placements ]

    Ace, it wasn't work experience per-se, it was just an off chance that my Computing teacher asked the IT admin if there was anything I could do, and I got a list

    I did basically what you have done today, plus some other (greater) responsibilites (such as managing a domain of 200+ computers) for 2 years part time. Was interesting at points, and to start with, and I learnt a lot, though I wouldn't fancy doing it for the rest of my working career.

    Glad you enjoyed it tho

    If the server room needs tidying then someone needs a bollocking.

    I had 2 weeks work experience in a garage, which was really cool, fixing cars, got to replace an engine. Now i'm on a year long work placement out of university bug fixing software, which is great fun maybe not to everyones taste, but i like it.

    Well, it wasn't really tidying the server room - all the switches and stuff in there look to me to be pretty well laid out - it was a trolley of components that needed to be sorted out - they had been collected form various parts of the school that day and were just waiting to be put in the correct places
