Interesting, could have saved many an argument with my bank.
First Direct told me that they never refund charges, I've been paid late before by a couple of days and had high charges due to account not having enough money in, but they'll have none of it.

do what that place says, what they're doing is illegal, and afaik, you should be able to claim for up to 3 years ago..

That's a very interesting article!
Before you start claiming, have a look at MSN Money, if you bank with the Alliance and Leicester, they will refund your money and give you 30days notice that your account will be closed.

The reason given is pathethic "Customers who have sought to pursue a small claims court action have had their cases settled and then their accounts closed. This is because A&L takes the view that the customer clearly has a disagreement with the terms and conditions of their account."
It looks like a lose lose situation for the customer. How can the government allow her citizens to be blatently ripped of by a banking institution? I wonder how many other banks are doing this?
Deo Adjuvante non Timendum
...I distrust the government but I do trust my bank. 'tis not a lloyds/abbey/what-not bank either. I'd never go to one of those if I could ever help it.

What a joke - so they try to legally write in their terms and conditions that they can claim huge £30+ fines for rejected direct debits (which is illegal) yet when you try to claim back what's rightfully yours, they dont wanna know! Typical bloody banks.
I think its because now that know they can't potentially milk you for money or that you know a lil bit of whats legal and what illegal to save them the trouble they cut you off.Originally Posted by javalord

the joke was i had an overdraft today but i don't have an overdraft set up! i mean come on, im going to call them today and give them a bit of my mind.
Hi All....
Just browsing and came across this post which I found interesting as I have recently been writing to my Bank requesting that they repay my unlawfull overdraft fees that they have been charging me.... to be quite honest I thought It'll be a waste of time until I found this site....
http://www.consumeractiongroup.co.uk
It has all the Details on how to claim back your charges! and all the legalities of it all...
It doesn't matter if you have been charged £30 or £5000.
did you know that under the data protection act you can request a copy of all your bank statements going back 6 YEARS.... and the bank cannot charge you more than £10 for the whole lot!!!!!!.
When I telephoned my bank to ask for my statements the customer services agent informed me that 1 copy would cost me £2... going back six years thats a lot of cash, until I mentioned that thay cannot charge me more than £10.... anyway to cut a long story short I'm awaiting the return of £1345 in unfair charges!!!
got a friend started the ball rolling on this, and so he should![]()
How many of us would like to send a letter like this!!!!!!
