Marvellous Motherboard
Well got my nice shiny new NF7-S this morning, installed it all after college and weeeeeee Windows is nice and fast.
It definitely feels more responsive than before, not just due to the reformat.
I'm rather pleased with this upgrade. Should last me years.
Thought I'd post here as it's more general conversation than hardware help really, but if a problem, feel free to move it mods :p
So is there anything I should know, now that I'm a proud owner of the NF7-S? Tips for optimum performance? (Besides overclocking :p)
And does this support 400MHz processors? (The Bartons?)
-
Where'd u get it form and how much, I want one for the LAN this weekend...
And yes it does support 400FSB CPU's thats y I'm after one ;)
-
It cost me £72.85 from CPUCity. Delivery was £7.81 or something.
Wonderful motherboard
-
IMPORTANT matey for best perf set full default and optimum setings in the soft menu before overclocking it and itl run VERY nicely indeed :D
That solved a few probs i had :). Tip from luke313- the man :)
-
:p
Yep I think that's what it's set at. The memory is set to "aggressive" btw, as it's running at 266MHz :p :D

is it an nforce motherboard?
I have an asus a7n8x-dlx and I think its busted...very pissed off with it, my computer died in the middle of writing my thesis this summer. and all the parts were new in april, so hardly got any use out of it. I've tried several different versions of windows but each one ends up in a recurring loop: machine starts up, posts, windows logo flashes up then I get a blue screen and it goes back to start up, posting...
I'v tried the HD in other computers - no probs there. and the first mobo I had was sent back because it was faulty...I think it could be the same here and I'm very p*ssed off. I think back to when I first got it and recall that it was always a little slow...but then got slower and slower until it finally didn't turn on...I took it to the shop but they found 'nothing wrong', when I got it back I had the same problems, leading me to believe that they didn't investigate the problems thoroughly enough. so much for that £20 they took off me. B*****ds...
anyway - it appears I could be looking for another mobo and was wondering whats out there that has similar specs as those on my, all be it dodgy, mobo...
-
mention trading standards to them as its not doing the purpose it said it would
having said that - might be yer ram?
-
The NF7-S and the A7N8X are both some of the best nForce2 mobos you can buy at the moment I'd imagine.
-
n1 Howard,
I was lucky enough to pick up a leadtek nf2 - 400 deluxe limted
edition, Only installed it late last night:)
Now all I need is a nice barton and I,m pretty much done,
well at least until the A64,s start coming down in price:D
-
My next upgrade is another 512MB Crucial for 1GB dual channel, and a faster processor in the future.
-
Another thing:
The SoundStorm on this is fantastic.
I'm using the analog output into my Cambridge Soundworks Digital 2.1 speakers, and the sound is far clearer and has more clarity and mid-range power than my Live. I first noticed this with Vice City where I started hearing more details, and when listening to MP3s (Even those encoded at like 128KBPS!) it sounds a LOT better.
I dread to think what the optical 5.1 output into my home cinema is like!
-
Yeah Sounstorm,
compared to my old kt3 ultra,s onboard
sound....it,s great....and I,m using
a pair of labtecs with surround sound...
imagine what it would be like with full 5.1:)
hexus reviewed my board here:
http://www.hexus.net/content/reviews...JsX3BhZ2U9Mg==
Still I,m running it with an xp22,
a 2800 barton would nice to finish it:)
-
-
cheers m8t:)
unfortunately my kt3 ultra decided to blow
on me after 15 mnths of use :( last week,
I brought an Epox 8RDA+. which was due
to arrive on saturday, it didnt so I had no choice
but to go to the local pc shop....I managed
to haggle an asus a7v8x-x down from £69
to £55:) then the epox turned up on
monday, and out of the blue the leadtek
came my way yesterday:D
It really was a no brainer about which
board I,d be keeping..lol
All We need now is hl2 for xmas:D
-
That's a good price for the A7N8X-X! What have you done with it, assuming you're using the Leadtek instead of it?
-
I couldn't resist. I overclocked :o
Currently running my memory out of sync at 333MHz :D And upped the CPU multiplier from 15 to 16x and it's running at 2.14GHz very stably :D
Oh and the CPU temp is 41C, system temp 23C.
*hugs Arctic Silver 3
*hugs Abit NF7-S
-
How goods this soundstorm then, I mite use the onboard instead of my SBLive!
-
It's a lot better than my Live! Tbh.
-
And why did I just get XP telling me it couldn't find ntskernel.dll or whatever the file was, when I put the multiplier to 17x, yet it boots when I go back to 16? Lol
-
cause you pushed it too far, try more volts :)
