    British Telecom

I had a problem for 3 days with really bad noise on my line and loads of drops on my broadband.

I was too busy to do anything about it until yesterday.

    At 11am I rang BT.

    At 2pm engineer arrived

At 3pm he had replaced my phone line.

At 3.01pm I tested my broadband.....now syncs at 17Mb, connects far faster and hasn't dropped at all. Before I was only stable at 13Mb, and during problem only on an unstable 2-4Mb connection.

When I phoned BT, I was really annoyed by not being able to speak to anyone, just selecting options. I was stunned by the arrival of the engineer, and even more stunned by the quick solution to better then I ever had.

What's going on BT!?!?!? We don't expect this sort of service!

My line tends to have quite a bit of noise ever since ADSL was first activated here like 3 years ago... but I don't really get line instability or anything like that, so I'm happy with it. Phone's hardly used these days anyway.

Why? Is cable better? I can only afford a certain amount and NTL do a 1mb package for £17.99. I can get 2mb for £15.99:

    What should i do guys?

Cable tends to be alot more stable, plus your line provider is your ISP rather than BT doing the line and your ISP doing the intenrent service at the other end.

When your looking at backages you have to keep in mind how much bandwith you will use as well as speed, ADSL tends to be alot more stingy on this, so in the long run cable could be the better deal, alot of ISP's will do upto 8mb for 14.99 with a 1gb a month limit then sting you for bandwith on top of that.

You should have a look on the euro1 website for a fair useage policy, I have not heard of them as an ISP personally.

No cap. Need more info on them i suppose. I want to go with NTL but will 1mb with no cap be a good surfing package? Is 1mb fast? I am dial up at the mo and hate it!!!

1mb would be fast compared to dialup, but most people have 2mb at least now, the standard for ADSL tends to be 8mb, as charges are by bandwith use not speed, ISPs might as well ofter the fastest speed they can and change by a series of bandwith caps.

Are you going to be downloading alot? If yes NTL, if not it could be worth getting a capped ADSL service that is likley to be faster at the same cost.

Also keep in mind with ADSL you will need a BT line, and thats another £10 a month line rental, looking at the total cost NTL could be cheaper, so do your sums.

Had BT installed recently - 3 appointments & 2 weeks later I now have a phone line, but the engineer missed 1 appointment, left card at gate never bothered to call! Anyway regards to your increase in speed, maybe due to your master socket - better S/N ratio... or something - see:
