THAT post there is prime example of audio snobbery. We all have different ears and tolerances to auidio quality. I have friends who listen to 128kb/s mp3s and others with 5k stereos.

I hate the fact that these audio elitests go and condemn people who don't want to drop 1/4 of a years wages on audio equipment.

Bourne, look mate you really need to pull your head out of (*restrains self*) the clouds if you think most people are gonna spend over £1000, which is a considerable amount of money, on something which is purely for entertainment.

I myself couldn't spend a thousand or more on a TV, a hi-fi or a holiday and I'm not doing too badly work wise.

    Not audio snobbery at all..............

Just because someone can't hear / see the diffrence between your standard 'in the box' cable and one that will give an upgrade - does that give them the right to rubbish the idea of paying more for a little gain.

I imagine there might be many an AV enthusiast who comes on hear only to think its a joke to upgrade your RAM for something that in 'real world' terms doesn't make a bit of diffrence to his/her's desktop ???

You only have to hear many of you talk about your 'Systems' to realise that this happen's all the time, or is that not classed as entertainment??

Im not into all the audio stuff honestly....just have my soundblaster live 5.1 and £120 5.1 creative speakers so i may not be in the best position to say, but doesnt it also depend on the music you listen to? I guess in classical it would make alot of difference but in dance music, you wouldnt notice much better on my system or a £5k one?

correct, although, thats more to do with the fact that dance music is produced fairly cheaply, and often has filters applied to make it sound better on cheap systems. often dance compilation albums have nothing below 100hz or so

I too hate all this crap about cables, however I do know they make a difference, some a good difference, some a bad difference.
All this rubbish about silver this, PTFE that, is nonsense. Electrical characteristics, such as capacitance, impedance etc, are what determines the result. So a well designed cable with cheap plain copper, could well out perform a wonder material cable which has been poorly implemented. Also how the cable loads the output stage of the piece of hi-fi has an effect. This means that what is good for one piece of equipment, is not always good for another.
I am currently using the second cheapest Chord cable in my system, and whilst there are deficiencies in it's presentation, overall it out performs some more expensive cables. And as for £2000 mains cables with 'inky blackness', don't get me started. You know who you are, Nordost!

Anyway, I'm just visiting from the Naim Audio forum, so I'll be getting off!

So it comes up yet again. I've been there, done that here:

However there has been some classic bullsh*t spouted in this thread too which I may as well slap down.

There's probably an element of snake oil about it, I have to agree, but not totally.
No, it is totally snake oil. Here's a very simple test that anyone can do to see if RF interference affects speaker cables: 1) unplug them from the amp 2) wave them around in the air like you just don't care and see if you can hear interference from the speakers.

Alternatively, unplug the speaker cables from the speakers, plug your headphones in, and do the same waving 'em around technique. Again listen for interference.

No? That's that settled then, let's move on.

Dunno if you're being serious here or not- but if you are- yes of course a benchmark is more accurate than your ears. Do computers have an incentive to lie? No. Do your ears? Yes, because you'd look a rubbishrubbishrubbishrubbish admitting that your £100 cables have made no difference at all.

I seem to recall in my last thread betting anybody £500 that they couldn't tell the difference between cables in a double blind test. I still can't afford to lose £500, and I'm still up for it, because I know I can't lose. Step up to the plate, cable fans, and put your money where your mouth is, or else STFU.

This is a forum, right, it's where people discuss opinions I think. Then why keep flaming others based on their views, If I want to spend 200 quid on a cable, and I like it then that's fine, if I want to spend 500 quid on the latest, greatest watercooled graphics card to gain 3 extra FPS that makes very little difference to real gaming(and thats superceded in 2 months) then thats up to me too.

Too much bickering and bitching at each other can't be healthy

    YES I love that thread

My speaker cables are running through an absolute PLETHORA of mains, interface, etc cables behind my cabinet, and yet I don't hear any distortion or adverse effects.
