What is wrong with mission? I have a pair and im happy with them.
Nothing wrong with Mission stuff. Although I would never own a set, I find they have a very harsh treble (obviously matching the correct components is a must and could solve this) personally I would recommend Kef's but again that is a personal opinion. The age old advice is listen first and find what you like! I would take a good listen to the Cresta 30's on the Richer Sounds sight. I used to have Cresta 3's and they were a blinding set of speakers. Only changed them as I got a set of Kef Concerto 1's for £150 instead of £800 and they were new!!!
Talking of Mission, Denon use rebadged Mission speakers in some of their mid-range HiFi systems.
I used to have a pair of Mission 703's in the early stages of my HiFi and they sounded great. I currently have a mid-range Denon system in my bedroom and that uses Mission speakers and that also sounds very good, purely IMO!
I used to have some KEF Q35s which seemed to be pretty good, although a bit bass-light for my tastes (although the person living beneath me didn't think so...)
As speakers (and CD players and amps) are a mature technology, there's no good reason why you shouldn't search for a second-hand bargain. I will be doing this when I have the space/money to build up a system again.

Second hand bargains are the way forward for sure. My system would have cost quite a lot of money if i hadnt got most of it by wheeling and dealing. E.g i swapped a hardly used record player for a hardly used boxed Arcam P75 power amp. he wanted what i had, and i wanted what he had. I got the better deal though, of course.
