It may just be the weather. Is it very cloudy there?

I'm in the midlands and we had some crazy storms last night. I had the 'No Signal Being Recieved' for at least half an hour. Fortunately it came back before the footy semi final.

    Thank god for that....

It's probably just weather... if Sky were doing maintainence I'm sure they would tell you well in advance. If it's only being happening for a few minutes then it will probably be back soon...

You'd think for the £52 a month that I pay them they'd at least be able to control the weather above my house!

IIRC I had the exact same error with the old amstrad box they provided us with, in the end they had to replace the box for us, its worth ringing them to see what they can do.

Who told you that? The government? I bet you believe other things likke "the cheque's in the post" and " I'll only put it in a little bit"

Seriously though digital signal is supposed to not compromise the picture with interference, so the picture doesn't get worse, it goes completely when the interference gets bad enough!

Sometimes the box "hiccups" and there is no signal. This can be cured by putting the box into standby, turning the power to it off for about 30 secs, and then re-starting it

We have just gotten off the phone from sky and they tell us because there was a thunderstorm they are not obliged to replace the box and that we should replace it through our house insurance (which had me thinking). I can understand that it may have been caused by a thunderstorm and im guessing that what may have happened is that a lightning bolt hit the sky dish? well surely they should be held responsible for providing some form of surge protection for these dishes, I mean what do they expect us to do? Unplug the damn thing everyday before we goto work? Where would we stand here?

Well, I dont see how thats possible, its not unknown for lightning strikes to fry phone equipment after a stike near the line somewhere but I should think it would need to be meters from your house to affect your sky box (assuming its not plugged into phone). If it is plugged in, is your modem goosed?

hmm, well the actual phone line is plugged up through a belkin surge protector, so I doubt that is the problem.

What make/model of box is it that has died mart? It could be a common problem, might be worth looking up the model on digitalspy or somewhere.

My digibox crashed yesterday. I know they do that sometimes anyway, but as I was unplugging it, it was REALLY hot on the top near the vents - I'm guessing the good old british 'heatwave' has had something to do with that?
