    why ?

as many of you proberbly dont know hizzy has just passed away i noticed it on here and on sky sports

no disrespect to anyone but why do some people get so much more respect when they pass away to other people

Barry Sheene passed away not so long ago and not a big fuss was made or many people knew bout it. But that Foe footballer died and it was horror to the world everyone was like he was a ledgend and stuff, in general he didnt do much to be honist he was a pretty poor footballer

people like Hizzy and Sheene will never be fully reconised for what they did or respected as much as they should because there sport is not so popular, i dont think it is right because people who pass away should all get the same respect.

    errr ? ? ?

in a way we are driven by what entertains us... people like to respect someone that has entertained us...

I don't believe they get more or less respect though, just a higher or lower quantity of people know them and hence word spreads faster/slower accordingly...

I'll be honest, I don't know the names that you are talking about... doesn't mean I don't or wont respect them, I simply do not know about them

Your raising a very good point here mate.

They will be respected more in different circles, if people were given more of a chance to care ie. it was splashed all over newspaper front pages they'd get the respect they deserved.

Unfortunatly its not that people don't know or care, they're just not given chance to

this has been said before... i dont see why some people get more respect when they die than others... when it was mentioned before i was about cancer.. and if some one famous died of cancer it would be more trajic than just a normall person... where it shouldnt be because they both deserve sympothy...

Feel free to flame me for my lack of knowledge but is "hizzy" the Biker who was killed tonight in the helicopter crash???

If he is then it is a great shame. I don't really follow bike racing at all but I immediately recognised the name.

Obviously our sypathies must go out to his family.

Yes - Helicopter in Scotland aged 41.

Dunno why some people get more respect........

Marc foe was 28 and Barry was 52 maybe that's the answer?
Barry was a great man who had a very "colourful" life

It's public perception and popularity, look at the respect F1 drivers get, 1/4 the risk and god knows how much more pay as a specticle F1 is like watching paint dry..... don't even start me on footballers

Well look at what happened when Ayerton Senna died. The whole of Brazil was in morning for a week or so.

I think we're starting to talk market value here. Does a snooker play really deserve hundreds of thousands for winning a tournament the sponsors and fans think so.
I'm into cycling and I can tell you that the average professional road rider might earn £40k pa, not a lot for sacrifices and pain they go through....

serves them right for being roadies then, hehe

i dont agree with giving sport stars a 'market value', as they are only human, not an object that can be bought and sold as some people like to think. i suppose the popularity of the sport will give a different reaction to when someone dies. football is hugely popular (have no idea why, pointless game), so many people mourn the player's deaths. snooker or whatever isn't so popular, so the players get less media attention.

Going a bit OT here LOL getting back on track, someone like Hislop, puts his life on the line racing, and gets far less respect than some posing footballer.....it shows the ignorance of the sports following public. I respect anyone who plays top level sport the general public does not realise the preassure and also comittment required

From the outside it looks all cushy cushy, but how many years of hard work has he put into getting that status?

From the age of 11? If you have ever been inside the "inner circle" of lower division football clubs and there players then you would be quite surprised.

    Football is a nasty business...
