    Midges - God Damn Midges

I was in the garden on Wednesday evening building a fence. I ust have been out there for 4 hours. The next day I had 7 masive redl lumps on my legs.

Now, 2 days later I look like a lepper and really want to itch my legs but I'm resisting.

I have tried a few creams from the Tesco chemist. All the ones have said stops itching fast. I'm still itching!

Has anyone got any advice before I gnaw my legs off?

Sure they were midges? Sounds more like an allergic reaction!

I had a wee reaction to some bites, two weeks ago. Never reacted to an insect bite before (other than a bit of itchyness), but they were really quite nasty.

Dry, peeling skin, swelling, itching - covering quite a lot of my body too. I actually woke up from sleeping during an itching fit... yep.. itching in my sleep! Worst part was the fact that most of the bites were on the palms of my hands. Ya know... where the skin is all tough, so you REALLY need to itch it to get any sort of relief at all. Then, when you've itched it til it's red-raw, you can't itch it again because it's so painful... but you HAVE TO!

Took me about 3 or 4 days to recover completely. After the first day, I bought some Boots Bite & Sting Antihistamine cream. Applied it 4 times a day, and kept my hands moisturised with E45 Itch Relief cream. When an itching fit occurred, I applied "Fenistil" gel (from Portugal though.. heh) which helped a lot. Swelling and pain from itching was reduced by holding bags of ice.

    Hope you feel better :>

I've always found the best thing for insect bites is a 1% hydrocortisone cream such as HC45.

First used it after sleeping under a gazebo for the night at a friends party, and woke up with a head covered in bites. It's what the chemist recommended me, and it works a treat.

Only available over the counter at chemists I think.

Anusol... yes, it's pile ointment but it's mildly anaesthetic so it'll stop the itching.

Plus, it can be applied to broken skin so it'll help prevent infection.

I ONLY know this 'cos I use it when I get a new tattoo... I don't suffer from Chalfonts, ok?

I went to France and decided to "Al fresco" .

I got over 200 bites on me, on EVERY part of my body. They all went like yours, but a bit more nipple like. I've never known pain like it, if it had carried on I was going to the hospital.... The best advie I can give is a cream/stick thing called WITCH DOCTOR. Kept me sane.

Also Start eating marmite. They don't like it apparantely.

I also would agree with Nick as I have used it in the past after getting tattoos done

Agh, I've had green flies going in my eye (literally, making me go blind!), in my ears, in my mouth... can't name a hole where they haven't gone .

Just been out on the bike... all over the damn place.
