Hey all, it's been a while!
Just wondering, what is the best Disk fixing program, last time I used one it was Norton Disk Doctor, but I avoid all norton/symmantec products now if I can.
Any advice?

Chkdsk isn't doing it, it appears to fix it and enables it to boot until the next restart.
If I then rerun chkdsk it finds the same problems.
So I need something a bit more powerful.
If it's doing that it could be the memory and not the hard disk; I've had a very similar problem to this before. It may be worth taking memtest86+ for a spin.
Nevertheless, try booting off the XP CD into a recovery console and running chkdsk from there. Also, see if the Bart PE boot CD has any handy disk checking plugins for it.
Cheers mate, already done the memtest, haven't booted it into recovery mode though - does chkdsk behave differently there?
I'll do it when I'm home.![]()
Erm. Ok Round Two.
The disk is screwed. Chkdsk pretends to work, and then the format from the windows disk fails.
Any tips? I was thinking a low level -0's format. But I'm wondering if there's not a drisk fixing utility, something to section off the bad segments?

Sounds like you've dealt with this a few timesI'll find out the make.
